Job description
Key Responsibilities
1. Apply a knowledge of fundamental geology to develop an understanding of how rock types and structure in an area impact on groundwater occurrence and movement
2. Understand and interpret maps, geographical data, historical evidence and models to build up a picture of the groundwater regime and/or land contamination, often based on incomplete information
3. Design modelling of groundwater flow, chemistry and temperature according to geological formations, surface water flow and man-made influence
4. Undertake environment impact assessments of groundwater abstraction and management activities, attend oral hearings
5. Design and commission boreholes, and samples.
Profile
Essential
6. Minimum 2.1 Bachelor Degree or Masters in Engineering Geology, Geology, Civil Engineering, or similar related subject.
7. Member of Institutre of Geologists of Ireland or other relevant professional body.
8. Professional Geologist or Chartered Engineer status or be on track to achieve this within the next 6 to 12 months.
9. A strong working knowledge of Irish and UK groundwater conditions and groundwater monitoring techniques and practices.
10. Ability to undertake and check hydrogeology calculations and analyses.
11. Relevant experience, knowledge and skills of /hydrogeology principals and practice.
12. Undertaking hydrogeology reporting in compliance with appropriate standards.
13. Experience in management of groundwater studies including design and implementation of groundwater monitoring programs, planning and supervision of aquifer testing programs, groundwater inflow assessments and groundwater modelling studies.
14. Strong understanding of the principles of Eurocodes in hydrogeology and geotechnical design.
15. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a large team.
16. Committed to Continued Professional Development.
17. Full clean drivers license.
Desirable:
18. MSc in Hydrogeology.
19. Good knowledge of Department for Infrastructure, Irish Rail and Transport
20. Infrastructure Ireland design and reporting processes, and other statutory agencies.
21. Knowledge of BIM and an understanding of core concepts and principles.
22. Experience with tendering and identifying value engineering solutions is highly advantageous.
