Forsyth Barnes is recruiting on behalf of a prominent global consumer organisation for a Manager, Assortment Capabilities to join the Global Merchandising team and drive the advancement of assortment strategies across Europe (EUR).
In this key role, you will lead the development and implementation of assortment planning tools and foster a data-driven approach to merchandising. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Merchandise and Assortment problems and how analytical platforms can help bolster the automation of processes and solutions.
We are specifically looking for an individual from a Merchandise or Demand Planning background, who has utilised data products/platforms in the past and supported in the build out of solutions, alongside analytical & technical teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Own and execute the roadmap for enhancing assortment capabilities in EUR, in alignment with the Global Merchandising strategy.
2. Act as the subject matter expert and product owner for assortment planning tools, working closely with Global Tech and Data & Analytics teams to lead development and deployment.
3. Guide Data Science teams in the creation of assortment optimisation tools. Collaborate with the Assortment Project Manager to gather business requirements, prioritise tasks, manage risks, and provide regular updates to leadership.
4. Engage with Operations teams and key stakeholders to identify testing opportunities, share insights, and refine in-market execution strategies.
5. Partner with Global Functions, Regional Merchandising, and Business Unit (BU) leads to drive adoption of new tools and continually enhance ways of working.
6. Contribute to the annual business budget planning, utilising a data-driven approach for accurate revenue and margin forecasting for the Merchandising teams.
7. Serve as the go-to expert for assortment and item data, tools, and processes within EUR, supporting key organisational projects as needed.
8. Advocate for a data-centric approach in merchandising decisions, with a focus on assortment lifecycle optimisation.
9. Collaborate with the Training and Development team to incorporate new tools and processes into ongoing merchandising training programmes.
Key Requirements:
1. 3-5 years of experience in retail merchandising or strategy consulting.
2. Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional initiatives and driving change within the organisation.
3. Experience in a supervisory role, with a focus on team development and mentorship.
4. Strong analytical mindset with the ability to develop strategic frameworks and execute plans effectively.
5. In-depth knowledge of multi-unit retail operating models and assortment planning processes.
6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and present them clearly.
7. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint).
