Engineering Technician (Packaging)
This role will support the installation, maintenance, overhaul, adjustment and modification of all plant and production equipment in the Packaging area, as well as the fabrication of new and replacement equipment. The Engineering Technician will also be involved in trouble shooting and continuous improvement initiatives in the Packaging area.
Responsibilities:
1. To provide direct support to the production and maintenance teams to resolve daily issues and assist with troubleshooting.
2. To install, modify and maintain the full range of production equipment in the Packaging area.
3. To continuously improve the production operations and improve efficiency. This includes: Specifically fine tuning equipment to increase output in Packaging. Reducing downtime and reducing waste.
4. To work to the highest engineering standards and deliver optimal performance in the Packaging area.
5. To assist in the complete validation of new and existing equipment including acceptance trials, debugging etc.
6. To liaise with vendors, suppliers and local engineering shops.
7. To become involved in analysing customer complaints and internal quality issues and assist in drawing up improvement programmes for equipment to eliminate these defects being produced.
8. To assist with the training of other Engineering Technicians, new recruits and apprentices as required.
9. To work closely with the maintenance team to apply learnings from breakdowns to improve preventative maintenance practices.
10. To fully participate in company-wide continuous improvement initiatives, working in teams as required and utilising appropriate quality tools as applicable.
11. To maintain appropriate recording and reporting systems on all engineering related matters (e.g., breakdowns, maintenance etc.) Full utilization of all current and new IT/processing systems e.g., SAP.
12. To maintain high standards of safety and housekeeping to ensure area, machines and equipment are maintained in a safe and clean condition. Correct and/or report unsafe conditions and other faults.
Educational Requirements:
13. Good knowledge of the Mechanical and Electronic Systems associated with high volume manufacturing equipment and hold a Third Level Qualification in one of those disciplines or the National Craft Certificate together with additional specialised training and experience.
Relevant Experience:
14. Relevant experience in Packaging – ideally Schubert
15. Relevant Automation experience, ideally Cognex vision systems, Domino/Videojet laser printers, AB PLCs
16. Ideal candidate would come from an electrical/automation environment with good mechanical experience
17. Relevant industrial experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
18. The ability to apply a scientific approach to problem solving, blending analytical and experimental skills to maximise productivity and yields.
19. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
20. The ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
21. Relevant PC skills
