Job Overview:The Asbestos Surveyor is responsible for conducting surveys to identify the presence and condition of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in commercial, industrial, residential, and public buildings.
The role involves assessing risk, preparing reports, and ensuring that clients are provided with the necessary information to manage asbestos safely.
The Asbestos Surveyor will follow strict health and safety guidelines to protect the public, staff, and the environment.BOHS P402 (Asbestos Surveying) / P403 (Air Testing) / P404 (Clearance Testing)Key Responsibilities:Conduct Asbestos Surveys: Perform both management and refurbishment/demolition asbestos surveys in various types of buildings, in accordance with HSE regulations and industry standards (e.g., HSG264).Report Findings: Prepare detailed, accurate asbestos survey reports, including the location, condition, and type of asbestos materials found.
Provide risk assessments and recommend control measures where necessary.Sampling and Analysis: Take samples of suspected ACMs for analysis by a laboratory to confirm their presence and type of asbestos material.Ensure Compliance: Ensure all surveys are completed in line with legal requirements, client specifications, and health and safety guidelines, including control of potential hazards during the survey.Monitor and Assess: Evaluate the risk of asbestos exposure in different environments and monitor the condition of asbestos materials to determine whether they require further action or remediation.Client Liaison: Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, advising them on asbestos-related issues and recommending appropriate actions.Health and Safety: Adhere to all relevant health and safety procedures and guidelines to minimize risk to oneself and others during surveys.Record Keeping: Maintain detailed and accurate records of asbestos surveys, reports, samples, and analysis results, ensuring that all records comply with regulatory requirements.Training & Development: Stay up-to-date with the latest asbestos management regulations, guidance, and techniques, and attend relevant training sessions as required.RequirementsAsbestos Surveying Qualification: P402 (Asbestos Surveying) most important, BOHS P402 (Asbestos Surveying) / P403 (Air Testing) / P404 (Clearance Testing)Health and Safety Certifications: Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations (e.g., HSG264, Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012).Experience: Working in the asbestos industry: 2 years (required) Ideally a minimum of 2 years working as an asbestos surveyorDriving License: Full UK driving license (or regional equivalent) may be required for travel between sites.Desired Skills:Attention to Detail: Ability to identify and assess the presence of asbestos in varying conditions and environments.Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and investigative skills for assessing risk and determining appropriate actions.Communication Skills: Clear communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively liaise with clients and team members.Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.Knowledge of Legislation: Understanding of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and HSE guidelines, as well as any other relevant legislation.Schedule:Monday to FridayWeekend availability (Very limited work at weekends)
