Position DescriptionWe are seeking a talented Junior UX Designer to join our dedicated team.
Your role will be to help us make our digital products and services accessible and inclusive for all users.
As part of the ESB design team, you'll be instrumental in ensuring that our digital offerings meet user needs and adhere to statutory accessibility standards.
In this role, you'll focus on enhancing the accessibility of our websites, applications, and other digital platforms to ensure everyone can use them seamlessly across multiple platforms and devices.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, external accessibility experts, and the ESB test area to ensure our digital products comply with accessibility guidelines, follow best practices in UX design, and remain consistent with ESB's design principles.
Key ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Support the design team in ensuring compliance with ESB's accessibility and usability standards, including WCAG 2.2 AA.Assist in the design and development process by reviewing and improving the accessibility of our public-facing websites, apps, and digital services.
Conduct UX accessibility testing using both automated tools and manual methods, including assistive technologies like screen readers and keyboard navigation, in collaboration with the ESB test area.
Work closely with external accessibility experts to validate and enhance the accessibility of digital products.
Collaborate with UX designers and developers to identify accessibility issues.
Collaborate with system designers in the creation of accessible design patterns and reusable components that align with ESB Design standards.
Assist in user research and testing, focusing on diverse user needs.
Help create and maintain internal documentation on accessibility best practices, ensuring accessibility is embedded at every stage of the design and development process.
Stay up-to-date with ESB regulations on digital accessibility and usability, as well as trends in inclusive design.
Experience & QualificationsBasic knowledge of UX design principles and design standards.
Some understanding of accessibility standards, such as WCAG 2.2 and inclusive design principles.
Familiarity with assistive technologies like screen readers (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver), keyboard navigation, and other accessibility tools.
Basic experience with HTML, CSS, and ARIA roles related to accessibility.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with designers, developers, non-technical stakeholders, and external experts.
A passion for creating accessible, inclusive services that benefit everyone.
Familiarity with accessibility testing tools, such as WAVE, axe, Lighthouse, or manual testing experience.
Knowledge of responsive design to ensure services are accessible across different devices and environments.
Some understanding of public sector accessibility and usability regulations.
Degree in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Technology, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.
LocationThis position will be based in ESB's Head Office, Dublin 2; however, you may be required to travel to other business unit locations.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week.
