IT Operation/Data Centre Migration Support Engineer
We are currently recruiting for an IT Operation/Data Centre Migration Support Engineer on a temporary full-time basis for approx. 18 months.
IT Operations:
* Manage and maintain IT infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance of systems.
* Manage and support Windows Server environments.
* Implement and maintain Active Directory, Group Policy, and other Windows-based services.
* Troubleshoot and resolve complex Windows-related issues.
* Oversee the deployment and maintenance of both Windows and Linux servers.
* Ensure high availability and performance of server infrastructure.
* Perform routine operational tasks, including patch management, system updates, and backups.
* Monitor IT systems for performance, identifying and addressing issues proactively.
* Establish and enforce operational best practices for maintaining system reliability and uptime.
* Provide technical support and guidance for escalated issues, working closely with the operations and help desk teams.
* Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to VMware, storage, network configurations, and operational failures.
* Work closely with cross-functional teams, including infrastructure, network, application, and security groups.
* Provide clear and timely updates to stakeholders, including progress reports and technical documentation.
* Create and maintain detailed documentation, including design diagrams, runbooks, low-level design documents, and migration playbooks.
* Develop operational manuals and standard operating procedures for IT infrastructure.
Data Centre Migration:
* Design and implement migration strategies for workloads, ensuring minimal downtime and operational impact.
* Lead the configuration and optimization of VMware environments, including ESXi, vSphere, and related tools.
* Oversee the deployment and migration of storage systems, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
* Identify potential risks during the migration lifecycle and IT operations and develop mitigation strategies.
* Collaborate with network teams to ensure connectivity and proper integration during migrations.
* Perform detailed assessments of existing infrastructure to plan migration activities based on the business functions.
* Coordinate between business stakeholders and technical teams and plan the migration approach.
* Develop comprehensive migration plans, including timelines, resource requirements, and risk assessments.
* Execute workload migrations using industry-standard tools and methodologies.
* Validate post-migration performance and troubleshoot issues as needed.
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
* Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
* Relevant experience in IT infrastructure roles, with a focus on VMware, storage technologies, and IT operations.
* Certifications such as VMware VCP, VCAP, or equivalent.
* Significant experience in the retail industry.
* Proven experience in executing data center migrations and managing IT operational environments in the retail industry.
* Expert-level knowledge of Windows, VMware technologies, including ESXi, vSphere, and vCenter.
* Strong expertise in storage systems (SAN, NAS, backup solutions), workload migration tools, and operational management tools.
* Solid understanding of networking principles, including VLANs, firewalls, and load balancers.
* Proficiency in project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and reporting.
* Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
* Knowledge of ITIL processes and frameworks for operational excellence.
