Description
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual to join our Data Center Engineering Operations team. This team works to maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services. As part of this team, you will ensure that the data center Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) infrastructure operates at 100% availability while delivering first-class customer service.
You will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves planned preventative maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response. You are expected to be a focal point for all facility operations and to support Amazon within data centers that it owns and operates.
In addition, you will manage large scale, high impact projects, and new region support, from conception to completion. Your projects will involve independent work and collaboration with external support groups including engineering, automation, procurement, and finance. You will create and deliver on key milestones, track costs, and document project results for future implementation.
Key job responsibilities
• Train and support the Engineering team in troubleshooting and operations
• Implement site-specific training exercises covering equipment such as diesel generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, and chillers
• Oversee day-to-day operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers
• Operate independently with limited direct management
• Assist in the design and build-out of new facilities
• Act as an escalation point for facilities-related issues. Work OT hours as needed
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and complete reports weekly
• Troubleshoot and report facility and data server-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA)
• Create and deploy standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams
• Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendors and AWS staff

A day in the life
You will work semi-autonomously in the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a data center, executing project scopes, providing timely escalation for facilities-related issues, first-line troubleshooting, and oversight of third-party vendors.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• 5+ years industry-related experience with knowledge of UPS, backup generator systems, and mechanical-room infrastructure
• (EU) driving license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 6+ years of experience in operations and on-call support for Data Center facilities
• Master Degree in a technical field - Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent
• Project Management experience and ability to read Single Line Diagrams (SLD) and control schematics
