Job Description
The Band Teacher will direct and manage the overall program of instrumental music and marching band for the school. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensure compliance with all state and district requirements. Plan activities to achieve district, region, and state recognition. Guide students through musical practice, giving them a chance to use musical instruments and their own voices and bodies to generate musical sounds, melodies, and harmonies.
Duties And Responsibilities
1. Engage students in musical concepts through the history and theory of music.
2. Guide students through the process of reading musical notes.
3. Provide basic vocal and instrumental instruction for a variety of musical styles.
4. Prepare students for participation in the solo and ensemble event by assisting in literature selection, performance preparation, and securing an accompanist, if needed.
5. Prepare students and participate in All City and District-Wide Showcases/Performances.
6. Participate in curriculum development programs, such as drama club and exhibits.
7. Evaluate student's performance and growth in knowledge for progress reports and report cards.
8. Maintain professional competence through professional development.
9. Maintain familiarity with current educational issues and trends.
10. Use current technology for instruction and management purposes.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Knowledge And Abilities
1. Knowledge of the theory and techniques required to compose, produce, and perform works of art through music expression.
2. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
3. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Qualifications
1. Valid Alabama Professional Certificate in Education.
2. Bachelor's Degree or higher in Music Education from an accredited college or university.
3. Must meet Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements or a willingness to meet the requirements.
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may require.
