Maintenance Technician
CREGG are currently hiring a Maintenance Technician to join a well-established food processing company based in Co. Monaghan.
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, troubleshooting, and repair of plant equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum productivity. This role requires a proactive approach to maintenance, adherence to safety and quality standards, and collaboration with the production team to achieve operational targets.
Key Duties Responsibilities:
1. Preventive & Planned Maintenance
o Perform preventive maintenance to minimise downtime and extend equipment life.
o Conduct planned maintenance routines to ensure smooth plant operations.
o Maintain accurate records by entering maintenance data into the system and updating equipment logs.
o Perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve equipment issues efficiently.
o Carry out electro-mechanical repairs on PLC-controlled systems, handling and packaging equipment, pneumatic and hydraulic components, and control systems.
o Monitor production lines and intervene immediately when performance deteriorates.
o Work independently to assess faults and determine whether immediate repairs are required.
2. Operational Support & Cost Control
o Provide maintenance support to the Production Team to help achieve targets.
o Maintain a cost-conscious mindset, ensuring effective use of resources and minimizing waste.
o Use all available resources (manuals, service contracts, technical documentation) to assist with breakdown recovery.
3. Equipment & Compliance Management
o Collaborate with equipment suppliers for new installations, modifications, and upgrades.
o Maintain workshops and tools in an organised and functional state.
o Ensure all spare parts are ordered before the end of each shift.
o Follow all stores and parts procedures.
o Record and report equipment damage to the department for corrective action.
o Provide mentoring and coaching to apprentices, ensuring they receive appropriate training for their trade.
o Participate in cross-skilling training to expand technical expertise.
o Ensure the Maintenance Manager is informed of any critical issues, following the escalation policy.
4. Health, Safety & Compliance
o Adhere to all Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations, including wearing appropriate PPE (clean overalls, safety boots, hair nets, hearing protection, etc.).
o Follow environmental policies regarding the control and disposal of oils, greases, lights, and batteries.
o Supervise and liaise with contractors, ensuring compliance with site policies and acting as a liaison when necessary.
5. Additional Responsibilities:
o Perform other maintenance-related tasks as required to support evolving business needs.
Key Skills and Requirements
* Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems in an industrial setting.
* Knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment, including troubleshooting and basic programming.
* Familiarity with pneumatics, hydraulics, and automation systems.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose faults efficiently.
* Understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
* Basic understanding of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for logging work and managing spare parts.
* Ability to work independently and within a team to support production goals.
Education & Certifications:
* Technical diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent field).
* Apprenticeship certification in mechanical or electrical trades is an advantage.
* PLC programming and troubleshooting certification (preferred but not mandatory).
* Health & Safety certification (such as Manual Handling, Working at Heights, Electrical Safety, etc.).
* Additional industry-specific training (e.g., food manufacturing safety, GMP, or ISO standards) is beneficial.
Experience:
* Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in an industrial or manufacturing maintenance role.
* Experience working with high-speed production lines, conveyors, packaging equipment, or automated systems.
* Proven experience in electro-mechanical troubleshooting and repairs.
* Previous experience in a regulated environment (e.g., food, pharmaceuticals, or automotive) is advantageous.
* Experience with continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean Manufacturing or TPM (Total Productive Maintenance).
* Available to work full time and On Call.
* Team player and ability to take instruction.
* Highly motivated and enthusiastic.
* Flexible.
* Attention to detail in relation to quality and output.
* Full Driving Licence.
