Job Title: Senior Ecologist
Location: Preferably hybrid in Dublin or Galway but it is flexible and open to negotiation
About the Role:
Gaia's client is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Ecologist to join their dynamic team. This role offers excellent flexibility for remote and hybrid working. If you are passionate about ecology, possess robust fieldwork expertise, and are committed to delivering high-quality ecological reports, this opportunity is for you.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct and lead a wide range of ecological surveys, including Ornithological surveys (e.g., breeding bird surveys, wintering bird surveys) and Non-ornithological surveys (e.g., habitat and vegetation surveys, bat surveys, freshwater and terrestrial mammal surveys).
2. Prepare high-quality ecological reports, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and related documentation.
3. Develop habitat management plans, biodiversity action plans, and other specialized ecological reports.
4. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff, including acting as a line manager where applicable.
5. Engage with relevant authorities and stakeholders, fostering strong professional relationships.
6. Ensure compliance with Irish and EU ecological legislation and best practices.
7. Contribute to project planning and delivery, ensuring ecological considerations are integrated.
Requirements:
1. A minimum of 5 years of professional ecological experience within the Irish or British environmental sectors.
2. Proven fieldwork expertise with the ability to lead surveys independently.
3. Strong technical report writing skills with a demonstrable portfolio of completed EIAs and other ecological reports.
4. Experience in mentoring and managing junior staff is advantageous.
5. Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
6. Comprehensive knowledge of Irish and UK ecological legislation and guidelines.
7. Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
8. Full clean Irish/UK/EU driver's license.
