About the Position: As a Junior Technical Artist, you will assist the art teams by providing tools, shaders, profiling information and documentation to enhance the technical and artistic quality of their work, as well as improve their efficiency in creating it.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with artists and developers to understand and address technical challenges in art content pipelines.
Develop and implement shaders, tools, and scripts to enhance productivity and streamline workflows.
Perform engine profiling to find and communicate areas of optimization regarding the art content.
Test and validate assets, ensuring they meet technical quality and performance standards.
Research, prototype and iterate on new ideas and technologies to improve the quality and efficiency of art content.
Document processes, create tutorials, and assist in knowledge sharing across the team.
Define and support content budgeting and technical guidelines to optimize project efficiency.
QualificationsCore Skills:
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, with a focus on collaboration, constructive feedback and teamwork.
Good general understanding of art and animation pipelines.
Familiar with engine profiling and optimization techniques.
Technical Requirements:
Basic Python knowledge – experience with C++/C#/Blueprints considered beneficial.
Familiarity with Unreal Engine (UE).
Understanding of version control systems.
Managing art content memory and performance budgets.
Created one or more custom tools and/or scripts to streamline workflows.
Familiar with 3D modeling tools such as Blender, 3DS Max, or Maya.
Entry-level shader development knowledge and understanding.
Ability to learn new programming languages, tools and systems.
Nice to have:
Experience in a Technical Art role on a published video game or mods for existing games.
Knowledge of Substance Designer/Painter.
Creating tools to batch processing repetitive tasks.
Experience creating procedural Houdini tools.
Texture compression techniques.
Experience creating art content and core art fundamentals.
Qualifications:
Over 2 years of experience in a game development environment, gained through a game development course or self-taught activities like modding and game jams. We value all forms of experience.
