Job Description: Care Staff
The primary purpose of the Care Staff role is to enhance the lives of our residents by working effectively with all staff members involved in their care.
* Evaluate and meet the physical and emotional needs of residents to provide the highest quality of care.
* Assist in the day-to-day running of sections, maintaining professional standards and care.
* Support the training of residents, observing and reporting on their progress to nursing staff and other personnel as needed.
* Participate in client assessment and program implementation.
* Accompany residents to outside clinics, hospitals, or other centres for specialized treatment or care, providing a preliminary verbal report upon return.
* Implement nursing treatment as directed.
* Aid in the induction of new Care Staff to the residents and general routine.
* Accept delegated responsibility for residents when requested, as directed by the Manager/Social Care Worker or Nurse in Charge.
* Attend In-service Training Programs and lectures on service user development.
* Participate in Fire Prevention and Emergency Training Sessions, becoming familiar with them and implementing fire orders as per appointment letter.
* Maintain confidentiality and observe strict Code of Confidentiality.
* Ensure hygiene and tidiness in assigned areas.
* Undertake training for safe medication administration.
* Administer medication in line with organizational policy.
* Support residents or day attenders in leisure activities, including swimming pool participation, cooking, cleaning, and driving.
Candidates must demonstrate sufficient competency and professional knowledge to perform the duties and responsibilities of the role.
Requirements:
* QQI Level 5 (Healthcare Support) or SKILL-VEC Level 5 or equivalent is desirable.
* One year's experience working in the area of disability is preferable.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Knowledge of HIQA, the Health Act 2007-2013, Progressing Disability Services for children and young people, New Directions & Mental Health in Intellectual disability.
* Flexibility to work in all areas of Resident Services.
* Creativity in using community resources, problem-solving, and supporting service user needs.
* Professional, accountable, good planning, and time management skills.
