Role Overview
Canada Life Europe (CLE) is seeking a talented Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) who is passionate about Software Quality and has a track record for building effective automation frameworks.
Our SDETs have an in-depth knowledge of Testing Best Practices as well as a strong programming background with the ability to design and execute optimal test strategies that leverage test automation capabilities to maximum effect.
This role is crucial in ensuring the delivery of high-quality automation solutions that will ultimately help to reduce the overall manual testing effort for each release and supports our mission to provide exceptional high-quality financial services.
This role will be working within our Process Automation team focusing on developing and implementing test plans and strategies for our upcoming Process Automation initiatives. This role will involve supporting the development and execution of both the manual and automation test activities within this team.
What you will help us to achieve
Role/Responsibilities:
1. Design and implement comprehensive test strategies and plans for upcoming releases.
2. Coordinate functional testing activities and prioritize testing requirements.
3. Creation and execution of manual and automated test cases to validate software functionality.
4. Define and implement automation test strategies focusing on achieving the optimal automation approach.
5. Develop and maintain test automation frameworks to ensure efficient and effective automation testing.
6. Develop, automate, and maintain highly effective test cases leveraging automation to optimise test cycle times and the lead time for delivery of new functionality.
7. Ensure comprehensive and transparent automation test coverage for new and existing product features.
8. Responsible for application integration testing with all required systems, databases, and services.
9. Promote testing best practices within the team.
10. Researching test tools, methodologies, and trends and working on continuous process improvement initiatives within the CLE Quality Practice.
11. Support migration of automation repositories from SVN to Azure Git.
12. Work closely with the development team to define and implement automation test strategies focusing on achieving the optimal automation approach.
13. Work as part of a Scrum team using Agile practices and adhering to the values and principles.
14. Work with the delivery team to contribute to successful implementations as per the release plan.
15. Support the testing as required in all other test phases for a release.
Essential Skills:
1. Strong test expertise and has in-depth experience owning and defining the test strategy for a new initiative and breaking it down into the corresponding test types and building and executing an effective automation strategy for these.
2. Has written automated frameworks using one of the following Frameworks/Libraries: Serenity, Selenium, Cucumber, Rest Assured.
3. Experience of developing a test framework from scratch or at a minimum maintaining one.
4. Experience of using maven to build & trigger automation runs.
5. Good Java development Skills and experience of writing functional and integration automation tests.
6. Experience of writing BDD Test suites with Gherkin, Cucumber and Junit.
7. Experience of best of breed practices in relation to test delivery.
8. Has worked in highly automated CI/CD environments.
9. Excellent Java and Git skills.
10. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
What you will need to be successful in the role
Key Strengths:
1. Strong programming background with Java (3 + preferable) with experience building BDD automation frameworks for both API and UI tier validation.
2. Proven ability to create robust and stable automation tests with transparent reporting on the automated coverage.
3. Demonstrate experience working in a test-driven environment with continuous integration pipelines managing the orchestration of feature and regression test packaging & execution.
4. Demonstrate hands-on experience of testing code quality & metric production & the implementation of quality gates.
5. Strong communication skills and the ability to influence the Delivery Team on Software Quality best practices and ensuring testable high-quality software.
6. Agile tester mindset and approach that has experience defining test approaches that maximise the Return in Investment from automation and enable Continuous Delivery.
7. Proven ability to assess inefficiencies in automation strategies and the successful execution of improvement initiatives.
8. Strong database testing experience from a functional testing perspective.

Desired Skills:
1. Previous experience working in Financial Services.
2. Previous experience working with Hyperscience or similar intelligent OCR platforms.
3. Written and/or oral German language.
4. Has experience of using Jenkins, for build and release management.
5. Experience developing automation solutions to validate.

Necessary Qualifications / Skills:
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
3rd level qualification (honours degree), preferably in a related discipline.
