Reports to: Director of Strategic Investments and Asset Management
Contract: Specified Purpose, Maternity Leave Cover
Location: Newtownmuntkennedy, Co.Wicklow
Role Objective
As a key member of the Land Solutions division, this person will play an important role in delivering the financial, operational, and strategic targets. In addition, this person will be responsible for creating value from the group’s strategic investments and business development activities through detailed financial analysis and commercial assessments that will support important investment decisions. Finally, this person will be responsible for the effective financial planning and reporting for the Land Solutions Division, ensuring accurate books of accounts are maintained and acting as the key liaison with Group Finance & Forest’s shared services. In summary, this person will be the go-to person on all financial matters for the Land Solutions division.
Responsibilities
Driving Business Performance
* As the financial expert member of the Land Solutions team, this person will deliver key financial and operational targets for Land Solutions.
* Support the ongoing development of the Land Solutions strategy across all areas of the business, challenging assumptions and decision making as appropriate.
* Promote good organisational health through good staff engagement on financial aspects of the business and by developing effective people, teams and organisation that are equipped to deliver the Land Solutions strategy.
* Be a visible role model for the company's culture and values.
Business and Financial Analyst
* Provide supporting commercial analysis to the Group’s strategic investments and business development activities.
* Provide financial analysis and modelling expertise to support key investment and asset management decisions, including exit opportunities where appropriate.
* Assess and monitor financial returns from individual strategic investments and across the portfolio, assess and measure value created and provide inputs for consolidation into Group accounts.
* Critically appraise and prioritise all capital investment ensuring the division maximises its return on invested capital.
* Design, develop and implement effective due diligence processes and procedures where appropriate.
* Assess different corporate structures for strategic investments, making recommendations on appropriate structures to deliver strategic objectives.
* Identify and assess opportunities for growth and restructuring.
* Support shareholder consent requests with financial assessments, modelling and responses to queries.
* Develop and conduct post investment appraisal reviews.
* Co-ordinate the work of external advisors where appropriate.
Financial Management and Reporting
* Develop and maintain timely and accurate management reporting packs that are appropriate for the business needs and in line with adopted accounting policies.
* Develop regular reporting and analysis, including variance analysis and key metric reports, providing the lead team with the information required to effectively monitor and drive performance.
* Lead the annual business planning and budgeting process and the quarterly business review and outlook process.
* Provide oversight and support for the financial structures in subsidiary and associated ventures (e.g. FEI, The Nature Trust, Sliabh Bawn, Project Prime) to ensure strong governance and compliance.
* Lead key interactions with Group Finance, acting as the main liaison on behalf of Land Solutions, agreeing the format and timeframes for Divisional reporting.
* Lead the cash management function of the Division in line with the Lean Centre’s Treasury policies and prepare cash flow forecasts in accordance with policy.
* Provide support for grant funding (e.g applications, invoices, back up etc.)
* Manage the Land Solutions procurement support and provide support on the procurement process where needed.
Governance and Risk
* Lead the assessment, reporting and management of risks and opportunities across the Land Solutions division, in accordance with the Group Risk Management policy.
* Promote and champion good governance and control across Land Solutions, ensuring appropriate decision making and approvals structures are in place with robust records and reporting, supporting and challenging colleagues where appropriate.
* Play a key role on the Data Governance team, attending quarterly meetings and supporting the Land Solutions Data Risk Champion where needed.
* Play a key role on the Group’s Property Sign Off Committee (PSOC) and Renewable Energy Sign Off Committee (ReSOC) ensuring appropriate governance in place in respect of land transactions across the Company.
Desired Technical/Professional Competencies:
* Education: Professionally qualified accountant with experience in a Corporate Finance or Financial Management role.
* Commercial and Financial Acumen: Strong knowledge to manage top‐line and bottom-line financials to maintain profitability and value of the estate and assets.
* Financial Appraisal: The ability to conduct critical financial appraisals by developing and interpreting financial models to support key commercial decisions.
* Accounting and Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge and experience of the financial and regulatory environment to ensure compliance with all requirements.
