Automation Project Engineer – Pharma Manufacturing
An experienced Automation Project Engineer is required for our client's major pharmaceutical site in South Dublin. This role focuses on Siemens-based control systems and supports a range of automation projects in a GMP-regulated environment. The position is available on a contract basis, with long-term potential.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead automation change controls and ensure GxP compliance for all activities on site.
* Oversee specification, development, installation, and validation of automation solutions—especially PLC and SCADA systems.
* Collaborate with OEMs and internal teams to develop and test PLC code to site standards (e.g., Siemens and Allen Bradley platforms).
* Perform system testing and debugging to resolve issues across control systems.
* Support training and knowledge transfer to operators and maintenance technicians.
* Evaluate existing processes and introduce control system improvements and innovations.
* Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and project teams to ensure timely and quality project delivery.
* Represent the site during vendor system qualification and FAT/SAT testing.
Required Experience
* 5+ years of experience with automation and control systems in pharmaceutical or life sciences manufacturing.
* Proficiency in Allen Bradley systems (RSLogix/Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View ME/SE).
* Experience with Siemens PLC platforms (TIA Portal, WinCC) is a strong advantage.
* Skilled in ladder logic, FBD, structured text programming.
* Strong understanding of industrial networking and communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, etc.).
* Experience working with SCADA/HMI platforms such as Ignition or FactoryTalk.
* Knowledge of FDA, GMP, GAMP, 21 CFR Part 11, and software lifecycle standards (GAMP 5, ISA-S88/S95).
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
* Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
