Are you looking for a new diverse and dynamic underwriting position well then this opportunity could be of great interest to you. Our client is looking for an experienced commercial underwriter to join their dynamic business commercial underwriting team as a Commercial Underwriter. They are seeking an experienced individual to underwrite and acquire multi-line commercial business, focusing on property and liability. In this role, you will collaborate with broker partners and sales colleagues to achieve their yearly growth targets and profitability objectives.
What does my day to day look like in this role?
1. Underwrite commercial business in accordance with established standards and limits to achieve planned financial results.
2. Contribute to the growth and development of the Commercial Lines business by acquiring new business while ensuring quality risk selection.
3. Apply underwriting discipline through continuous monitoring of selection criteria, rating strength, and use of pricing tools.
4. Manage referrals and queries for cases within the Delegated Underwriting Authority (D.U.A.) and in adherence to guidelines.
5. Work collaboratively with team members and colleagues across the company to deliver excellent service standards to our customers.
6. Assist in developing and implementing product strategies, actively participating in the review of performance, with a focus on growth and quality risk assessment.
7. Demonstrate initiative within a team structure and uphold high standards of professionalism in all business dealings.
8. Contribute to the development and mentoring of staff in technical insurance matters.
9. Provide regular reports to key stakeholders on new business growth, opportunities, quality, trends, and market developments.
10. Fulfill any other duties or responsibilities as reasonably assigned based on company requirements.
What requirements are needed for this position?
11. Minimum 5 years of commercial underwriting experience in property and liability classes.
12. Proven track record of high-performance standards.
13. Strong technical understanding of insurance products and underwriting disciplines.
14. Pragmatic decision-maker with solid underwriting assessment and reasoning skills.
15. Quality-focused with a commitment to delivering excellent customer service and meeting deadlines.
16. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build working relationships within teams and with internal and external stakeholders.
17. Self-motivated and proactive, with a desire to continuously develop knowledge and experience.
18. Ambitious, energetic, and possesses a positive outlook.
19. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and underwriting applications.
20. Professional insurance qualification, preferably at a minimum level of Certified Insurance Practitioner (CIP). ACII qualification is desirable.
21. Compliance with regulatory requirements as described in the Minimum Competency Code and Fitness and Probity Standards.
