Energy Sector Upstream Commercial Lead

Role Purpose:
We are seeking a business lead/commercial lead coming from the energy sector who will be on the ground supporting the growth of new energy sites and projects. This involves site evaluations, talking to land agents, acquiring the land, ensuring suitable connectivity availability to grid, and planning. This is a varied and exciting role with a company heavily investing in the future of energy. You will be part of a wider team who actively screens, proposes, and manages asset development opportunities that support the wider business and are underpinned by the Upstream Investment Strategy.
About the Role
- Business Development lead into investments or acquisitions into assets that provide services to the electricity grid e.g. Battery Storage, Synchronise Condensers, Interconnectors, Capacity Contracts, Peaking Plants
- Engage with landowners and developers to develop opportunities across thermal, storage, renewable generation, and net zero asset classes.
- Development of land and grid led development opportunities.
- Appraise development risk across all stages of development – land, planning, grid, pre-construction, and construction.
- Manage all development activities throughout the development life-cycle from inception through to delivery for assigned projects.
- Value engineering and leading risk management throughout the project life cycle.
- Ongoing budgetary responsibility for project development and delivery stages.
- Support all upstream business development and net zero targets through modelling, market research & contract negotiation, including potential RES equity stakes.
- Form excellent working relationships with Business Development functions driving value generation and prioritisation of optimal project selection.
- Work closely with several disciplines to deliver synergistic value to investments across external and internal resources including Finance, Trading, Legal, and Technical.
- Informing and driving consistent commercial thinking across the projects and relevant business areas.
About You
- 3rd Level Qualification in relevant discipline with relevant experience in large scale development programme management in an infrastructure environment.
- Significant experience in project management of electricity related construction projects from pre-planning, planning, commercial procurement, financing, construction, and commissioning.
- Experience of working with key external stakeholders such as ESB and Eirgrid.
- Working knowledge of legal and contractual issues related to large infrastructure projects.
- Strong development, commercial, leadership, and stakeholder management track record.
- Ability to prioritise work effectively in an environment with changing requirements, schedules, and priorities for multiple projects or assignments.
- Ability to clearly and concisely express information (or data) to non-technical associates, peers, and management.
