About the Role
The Mechanical Project Engineer reports to the Mine Manager and is responsible for the design, procurement, installation, and maintenance of products and equipment supporting the continued and sustained development of the mining operations. The successful candidate will ensure projects are delivered in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner while collaborating with internal teams, contractors, and suppliers.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Promote company Health and Safety, Environmental, and Quality Policies in the performance of the role.
2. Manage projects to ensure they are delivered in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner in agreement with the Mine Manager.
3. Project manage all mine-related projects by developing project scopes, budgets, and timelines in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
4. Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
5. Confer with the Mine Manager, project teams, and maintenance department to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
6. Lead and manage mechanical projects across mining and quarrying operations.
7. Research and analyse design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
8. Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
9. Research, design, evaluate, procure, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements.
10. Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendations to the maintenance crew.
11. Liaise with internal stakeholders, contractors, and suppliers to ensure project success.
12. Ensure the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of machines and ensure equipment is functioning according to specifications.
13. Conduct research that tests and analyses the feasibility, design, operation, and performance of equipment, components, and systems.
14. Recommend design modifications by identifying the real root cause to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
15. Supervise technicians and contractors during project work and design evaluation programs.
16. Study similar industrial processes to determine where and how application of equipment can be made.
17. Write performance requirements for engineering projects.
18. Provide technical documentation, instructions, and specifications to ensure proper fabrication, construction, and maintenance of equipment.
19. Evaluate compliance with standards, laws, and regulations and perform risk assessments.
20. Ensure budgets, timescales, and specifications of projects are agreed upon with the Mine Manager and the wider organization.
Requirements:
1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
2. Experience in a production or heavy industry environment (mining experience preferred, but transferable skills are welcome).
3. Understanding of mechanical systems, reliability, and project management in an operational setting.
4. Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite for reporting and analysis.
5. Commitment to safety and sustainability, ensuring responsible engineering solutions.
6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
7. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
