Are you an IMS Senior Database Systems Programmer looking to support and drive innovation for the IMS Platform.
This role is critical in maintaining operational excellence and ensuring a resilient and efficient database environment.
You will work closely with database vendors, infrastructure teams, DBAs, and application teams to install, configure, maintain, and optimize IMS database environments within GM's mainframe infrastructure.
You will also be responsible for performance tuning, capacity management, system monitoring, disaster recovery, and automation solutions to enhance the availability and efficiency of GM's global mainframe database operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Administration:
Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain IMS databases and related subsystems
Performance Optimization :
Analyze system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies for IMS databases
Capacity Planning:
Monitor and manage database storage and resource allocation to ensure optimal performance and scalability
System Monitoring & Automation :
Develop and implement global monitoring and automation solutions for enhanced system availability
Disaster Recovery:
Design, implement, and test disaster recovery plans for IMS databases to ensure business continuity
Security & Compliance:
Implement and enforce security best practices and regulatory compliance for IMS environments
Collaboration & Support:
Provide Level 3/4 support for IMS software delivery teams, troubleshooting and resolving complex production issues
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:
Maintain technical documentation and share best practices within the team
Vendor & Stakeholder Engagement:
Work closely with IBM and other vendors to manage product lifecycles, upgrades, and issue resolution
Requirements:
5+ years of experience as an IMS Database Systems Programmer.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).Experience in installing, upgrading, and maintaining IMS (Transaction and Database) systems.
Strong knowledge of IMS commands, buffer pool management, and recovery procedures.
Proficiency in JCL, TSO/ISPF, VSAM, SMP/E, and related mainframe tools.
Experience with IBM Z Workload Scheduler and batch job scheduling.
Hands-on experience with disaster recovery planning and execution for IMS.Understanding of Db2 and IMS integration, security, and subsystem interactions.
Ability to support systems in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Expertise in IBM's InfoSphere Replication Server for z/OS and IBM InfoSphere Data Replication Change Data Capture.
Experience with IBM Data Virtualization Manager and BMC utilities.
Knowledge of IT best practices such as ITIL, COBIT, and ISO9000.Proficiency in REXX and CLIST programming for automation.
