Overall Purpose of Job

The Infection Prevention Control (IPC) Administrator is to assist and support the Infection Prevention Control Department in preventing and reducing Healthcare-Associated Infections (HCAI) and contributing to ensuring the effective working of the Infection Prevention Control Department. The IPC Administrator’s role is primarily to provide administrative duties within the infection prevention control department such as report writing, audits, and inputting data into spreadsheets, but also to coordinate environment and hand hygiene audits and hand hygiene practices using the education tools.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
Clinical Responsibilities:
* Assists with audit activities as assigned by the Head of Infection Prevention Control (IPC) or Infection Prevention Control Clinical Nurse Manager 2.
* Coordinate and complete IPC hospital wide audits i.e., environmental and hand hygiene.
* Carry out focused audits as directed by the Head of Infection Prevention Control such as bedpan washers, commodes, PPE etc.
* Assist with quality improvement projects and data collection.
* Coordinate and complete education of staff on hand hygiene using the SureWash System.
* Organise and participate in the annual IPC awareness days i.e., World Hand Hygiene Day May and IPC week October.
* Educate staff when infection prevention and control measures are not adhered to.
Administrative Responsibilities:
* Carry out administration duties as requested by Head of IPC or Consultant Microbiologists.
* Assist with administrative duties such as minutes of meetings, agenda and audit reports.
* Assist with IPC surveillance activities such as collecting data/documents related to patients.
* Complete environment audits and write up audit reports – following discussion with the Head of Infection Prevention Control agree an action plan, date for improvements and submission of audit report and follow up of outstanding actions within a defined period of time.
* Coordinate monthly hand hygiene audits and complete monthly reports.
* Complete Public Health Notifications and submit securely to relevant Public Health District.
* Schedule meetings, complete minutes of meetings such as Infection Prevention Control Committee (IPCC) minutes, Infection Prevention Control Team (IPCT) and Joint Commission International (JCI) Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI) Workstream etc.
* Coordinate duty rosters for Consultant Microbiologists ensuring online roster directory is kept up to date.

* Participate in their performance review with the Head of Infection Prevention Control.

* Comply with guidelines for absence, tardiness and BTime policy.
* Attend staff meetings, read all work-related email and other postings.
* Wear Identification Badge when working.

Person Specification
Qualifications:
* Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
* FETAC Level 5 course in administration or Health Care Assistant is desirable.
* Computer literate, excel experience is desirable.
Experience:
* Administrative experience.
* Hospital experience desirable.

Personal Competencies:
* All posts in Beacon Hospital require a high level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service. Therefore, the post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility as and when required by their manager or hospital management.
