In February 2024, TUS became a QS* 5 Star university, having achieved the highest possible number of stars to become one of the top-rated universities in the world.We are recruiting for a Head of Department of Applied Science.The Department of Applied Science delivers a range of courses in the disciplines of Applied Biology, Biotechnology with Biopharmaceutical Science, Bioanalysis and Biotechnology, Environmental Science and Climate, Forensic and Pharmaceutical Science, Drug and Medicinal Product Analysis, Medical Technology and Agricultural Science and Sustainability.While the person appointed to this post will be based in the Moylish (Limerick) Campus, there will be some travel involved to the Thurles campus and other campuses, as TUS programme portfolio and campus Masterplan are evolving. Substantial engagement with industry partners will also require travel.Heads of Department are key members of academic management and make a critical contribution to the growth and evolution of the University. Therefore, they face an exciting, challenging and demanding role in ensuring that the University meets the requirements of its students and the wider community. In addition to the academic qualifications specified, it is expected that candidates would be able to demonstrate their highly developed organisational, communications and interpersonal skills as well as the ability, vision and leadership needed to develop, manage and maintain the Department and engage with and support regional industry/educational/sectoral groups.The Head of Department of Applied Science should be a visionary leader with strong academic, research, and managerial skills and the ability to inspire, manage teams, and drive innovation.
