Title: Operating Engineer HVAC
Shift: Rotating Shifts (Mornings, evenings, nights, weekends when needed)

Pay: $40-$41/hr
Operating Engineer Role:
This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all Chilled Water and associated equipment, AHU’s (Air Houses), and Cooling Units on internal customer owned machinery. Work is performed under direct supervision of the Plant Manager. All interactions with customers are expected to be professional and courteous while providing the services and support needed for success.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform all station shift operation and maintenance, including startup and shutdown of main plant components and auxiliaries.
2. Perform operations in accordance with established SOPs and job safety standards.
3. Respond to abnormalities and take corrective actions consistent with established operating procedures and good engineering practice.
4. Conduct routine tours of the plant to inspect equipment; provide feedback to management and other employees.
5. Comply with all site safety requirements and procedures. Identify safety hazards and take corrective actions as necessary.
6. Maintain accuracy of shift operating logs in Plant log, records, timesheets, work orders and other administrative documents related to plant operations.
7. Perform plant switching and tagging of equipment in accordance with approved procedures and prudent operations and maintenance practices.
8. Perform mechanical inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks under direction of Management or Lead O&M Technician.
9. Investigate plant issues, incidents, accidents, and unusual events, and provide analyses, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow-up plans.
10. Conduct Contractor / Visitor Safety Orientations in accordance with Company Policy.
11. Facilitate pre-job briefs with staff/contractors to ensure worker safety and policies and procedures are followed.
12. Active participant of the site safety team/committee.
13. Develop, assist, and revise operations and maintenance related procedures.
14. Perform and maintain housekeeping standards and duties.
15. Perform routine preventive and predictive maintenance on all systems and equipment; support corrective maintenance efforts on selected equipment when properly trained, observed by the Lead O&M Technician, or supervised by Management.
16. Become Subject Matter Expert or system representative on assigned systems.
17. Perform other duties necessary to fulfill plant requirements.
18. Communicate with other company personnel on site and at other locations. Represent the company in dealing with the customer, vendors, contractors, regulators, and other non-company personnel under the direction of Management.
19. Assist other team members and work with all departments to support the operation in achieving its goals.
20. Willingness to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and respond to off-hour call-ins when contacted.
About You:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Possess a valid state driver’s license and have a good driving record.
3. Universal Refrigerant License is required.
4. Basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Office applications.
5. Ability to read and write effectively in English and to do basic mathematics.
6. Knowledge of and experience in Standard Operating Procedures, Pre-Job Briefs, Job Hazard Analysis, Risk Assessments and LOTO.
7. Four (4) years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of Centrifugal Chillers, Water Treatment, Cooling Towers, Air Houses and Gas fired equipment.
8. Possess experience removing, adding, trimming, reclaiming refrigerants from refrigeration equipment.
9. Troubleshooting, testing, repairing, diagnosing, replacing of parts, components, and refrigerant leaks on equipment cooling units is required.
10. Knowledge of power plant mechanical and electrical equipment, including motors, pumps, fluid systems, chemical handling, water treatment systems, AC and DC electrical distribution and control systems and associated maintenance functions.
Preferred:
1. Four (4) years of power plant experience in operations and maintenance.
2. Experience using Maximo and Leido’s HIM controls.
3. Ability to complete site specific written qualification program.
4. Knowledge of chiller plant safety, policies, and procedures, especially in areas such as chemical handling, high energy systems, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, and heavy equipment.
5. Knowledge of and ability to understand fundamental principles related to physics, mathematics, AC & DC electrical theory, heat transfer and fluid flow, thermal dynamics, and chemistry.
6. Knowledge of and experience in the following: pipefitting, welding, machining, rigging, rotating machine repair, fabrication, machine alignment, basic vibration analysis, and using electrical test equipment.
7. Knowledge of chemistry and Chiller plant chemical applications. Ability to operate valves, switches, controls, keyboards, and other devices associated with power plants.
8. Ability to use basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, and basic rigging equipment such as winches, hoists, and slings.
