Project Accountant Role & Purpose
The client is a leading Semi-State that is currently hiring for a Project Accountant. The main focus of this role is to assist in managing the financial control requirements of the Business Unit, encompassing project budgetary control, periodic reporting, financial planning, forecasting, project controls, contract management, and funding cash flow management.
Key Responsibilities:
* Project contract financial management
* Periodic financial reporting, including variance analysis
* Accrual analysis and preparation
* Variance analysis reporting
* Maintenance of effective internal controls
* Identification and documentation of process improvements
* Budget, forecast, and 5-year plan preparation
* Adherence to the agreed reporting calendar
* Third-party performance reporting
* Support for auditing processes and procedures
* Compliance with HR policies and procedures
* Leadership and support for team members to facilitate role execution
* Effective communication with team members to ensure task completion
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
* Qualified accountant with 3+ years post-qualification experience
* Experience in Project Accounting, particularly Infrastructure Projects
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
* Strong analytical skills
* Ability to collaborate within a finance team and with non-financial project team members
* Forecasting experience
* Understanding of project expenditure, accruals, retentions, and cash flow
* Knowledge of contracts, contract variations, and procurement-to-invoice processes
* Understanding of Irish Tax Law and its impact on project budgets and forecasts
* Ability to produce high-quality, timely, and consistent financial reports
Desirable Qualifications and Skills:
* Problem-solving and change management skills
* Knowledge of SAP Financial, Controlling, and Project Management modules
* Public procurement knowledge
