Role: Staff Nurse
Location: Grace Park road, Drumcondra, Dublin 9
Hours: 39 hours per week
Duration: Permanent
Overall Purpose of the Post:
The Staff Nurse will provide for the medical needs of children with visual impairments attending ChildVision's campus-based services and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to support children with visual impairment across Ireland.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Practice:
1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of children with visual impairments and potentially other disabilities.
2. Support visual assessments for children and young people by collaborating with the ChildVision vision team to conduct ophthalmology and low vision evaluations.
3. Early detection of both physical and mental health issues.
4. Administer medications and prescribed treatments, working alongside non-nursing staff.
5. Provide emergency medical assistance to both students and staff when necessary.
6. Assist with regulatory inspections to ensure compliance and safety.
7. Provide general and specific nursing care to all students attending the services of ChildVision (pre-school, primary and secondary schools together with both vocational trainees and, where necessary, participants at Family Resources Centre events).
8. Accompany students to consultations with external health professionals and ensuring all follow-up procedures are implemented.
9. Liaise with other professionals both internally and externally to ensure holistic needs of the students are met.
10. Provide students with an open door policy to discuss any issues in confidence.
11. Ensure correct administration of medical preparations and educating students on their medication.
12. Ensure adequate supplies of medication and first aid requirements.
13. Where appropriate, deliver training to staff.
14. Ensure the correct procedure is followed in the case of an emergency or accident and where necessary provide first aid and/or medical advice to students/staff or visitors to the Campus.
15. Participate in ophthalmology and low vision clinics.
16. Where necessary, ensure parents/guardians are informed of their child’s health needs.
17. Maintain comprehensive confidential medical records on each pupil.
18. Participate in both internal / external meetings/assessments as required.
19. Participate in working groups set up to benefit and improve services to students.
20. Education of staff on various specialised areas of nursing care e.g. tube feeding etc.
21. Ensure staff are fully aware of the medical needs of pupils in the event of a nurse not being available.
22. Any other duties as designated by the CNM.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:
1. Bachelor's degree in paediatric, intellectual disability or general nursing.
2. NMBI Registration essential.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
5. Strong organisational and time-management skills.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
1. Experience working with individuals with a visual impairment.
2. Experience in working with children with complex disabilities.
3. Knowledge of child development and developmental delay.
Terms & Conditions:
Reporting to: Clinical Lead / CNM
Probation: A probationary period of 6 months applies, wherein three probationary meetings will take place to review your performance and suitability for appointment. The probationary period may be extended or terminated for any reason at ChildVision’s discretion.
Annual leave: Annual leave entitlement is 30 days pro rata per annum.
Pension Scheme: ChildVision operates a contributory pension scheme, which all employees may join.
Garda Clearance/ Police Clearance: These will be required for all prospective employees who will undertake relevant work or activities relating to children or vulnerable persons. This will include any state outside of Ireland where the candidate has resided for a period of 6 months or more.
Pay: Salary Scale Range €33,943- €51,628 (Pro rata)
Sick Pay: All periods of sickness exceeding 3 days must be medically certified. Weekly medical certificates are required thereafter. The Company reserves the right to have you examined by an occupation healthcare assessor. #J-18808-Ljbffr
