Accountant - Qualified (12-Month FTC - Maternity Cover)

Hours: Monday-Thursday 09:00-17:30, Friday 09:00-17:00
Contract Type: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract (Maternity Cover) with the potential for a permanent position
We are currently seeking a Qualified Accountant for a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover contract, with the potential to transition into a permanent role. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly growing multi-site organisation in the waste management and recycling industry. As the company continues to expand its operations, you will play a key role in managing the financial performance of 2-4 business divisions, working closely with senior management, and helping to drive improvements and support decision-making.
About the Role
Based in Portlaoise, the Accountant will take ownership of the P&L for assigned divisions and provide key insights into financial data. The role also includes supporting month-end processes, forecasting, and budgeting cycles. You will collaborate with Business Managers and operational teams to ensure financial performance is aligned with the company's growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Own the P&L for assigned divisions, providing strategic commentary and insights
2. Lead month-end reviews and support the preparation of board reports
3. Manage weekly forecasts and contribute to annual budgeting cycles
4. Collaborate with Business Managers and Operations to review financial data and identify business improvement opportunities
5. Potential opportunity to supervise junior accountants
About You
You are a fully qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA, CPA, CIMA) with strong experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and business partnering. You should be comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and communicating financial data to non-finance stakeholders.
Experience we're looking for:
1. Proven experience in P&L ownership and financial reporting
2. Strong analytical and communication skills
3. Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-division environment
4. Prior industry experience preferred (e.g., waste, manufacturing, logistics), though candidates from a consultancy background are also encouraged to apply.
Working Style & Location
This is a hybrid working role, with 2 days per week in the office in Portlaoise (subject to business needs).
