Job Description
This role will involve using workshop equipment (Lathes, Milling Machines, CNC Routers, laser and mechanical cutting equipment, forming/bending equipment as well as various hand tools) to machine metals and plastic-based materials. The work will be constantly changing driven by solutions required and will involve prototyping, modifications, use of different tools, skills, and materials. Workshop management will include the following:
General Duties
* Role model Safety (Ensuring a safe working environment exists for self and colleagues - compliant with all regulatory safety requirements)
* Workshop organisation, layout, and housekeeping
* Consumable parts management and associated quarterly budgeting
* Work priority management, execution, documentation, and evaluation
* Estimation of length of time, materials, and resources required to complete a job
* Job evaluation and determination if it can be actioned in-house or recommend alternative courses of action
* Driving cost-effectiveness and efficiency saving, forecasting and managing spends to budget, determining ROI of each piece of work or activity
* Ability to simultaneously address multiple complex technical problems
* Producing weekly Workshop Comms and promotion - sharing capability, savings, and innovations
* Assessing additional supporting workshop candidates and coordinating workloads to help support on shifts/out of hours support
* Conducting benchmarking studies to determine best practices/designs and future trends
* Undertaking special projects as required
* VF knowledge capturing and exchange of innovations through existing formal processes
* Managing and liaising with external suppliers on the repair/replacement of tooling components and equipment
* Co-ordination of 3D operation and managing and supporting process within same workshop space
* Supporting factory HPM programs
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills required, strong organization and time management skills
Technical Skill Requirements
* Ability to manage projects from concept to delivery in a fast-paced environment
* Ability to present and explain data and plans to both technical and non-technical forums
* Ability to interpret schematics, technical manuals, blueprints, drawings, geometric dimensions, and tolerances
* Transferring/Mark-out of dimensions from plan to the workpiece in preparation for Machining
* Design experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and or similar
* Setting, programming, and operation of CNC machines, Vcarve/similar software, drawing, editing, tool setup
* Expert Lathe turner, Milling machine, and general workshop equipment knowledge and skills
* Competence in using Vertical and Horizontal Bandsaws, Grinding wheels, Belt sanders
* Competence in Heli coil insertion, Screw and bolt extraction (in the field as well as workshop) and Tool bit sharpening
* Using and managing calibrated instruments, verniers, dial gauges, Depth gauge etc.
Must Have Qualifications
* The successful candidate will have time served Toolmaker/ mechanical trades qualification or National Certificate/diploma/degree (or equivalent) with a minimum NFQ Level 6 in an appropriate electro-mechanical/electrical/or engineering discipline
* 5+ years' experience in mechanical fabrication, demonstrated skills and proficiency on workshop equipment is mandatory - Milling Machines & Lathes, etc.
* Experience in semiconductor manufacturing environment
* Mechanical skills and technical knowledge
