The Senior Unix Engineering Consultant is primarily responsible for delivering Engineering support to personnel in the UK and India, following strategic direction in the area of Enterprise Unix Servers and ensuring its integration into other key areas, (e.g. VMware/Database/Storage/Automation). This may require some crossover into the Unix Operations team to ensure day-to-day operations are functioning to agreed best practices as defined by Unix Engineering.
The Senior Engineering Consultant will establish and maintain a strong working relationship with the management of internal and external customer/business functions. The Consultant will possess excellent communication skills and will work on a day-to-day basis with internal customers and business users, technology teams, and third parties to ensure that services are delivered in line with the defined customer service levels and expectations.
This is a key role requiring a broad range of technical knowledge specializing preferably in RHEL but including either AIX or Solaris. This is a highly challenging but rewarding position where you will be expected to act as a role model within the team, leading by example and also assisting with mentoring initiatives in the UK and India.

Essential Skills
1. Very strong system administration skills in RHEL and either Solaris or AIX.
2. Knowledge of ESX virtual technologies for Linux hosting.
3. Experience of working in a DevOps enterprise environment.
4. Exposure to Windows but exceptional hands-on Linux, RedHat, and UNIX skills.
5. Working knowledge of Apache, Tomcat, or JBOSS web servers, Java environments, and build tools.
6. Experience of Puppet or Chef automation, including configuration, setup, ongoing support, and driving future strategy.
7. Management of large (over 1000 server) heterogeneous estates using tools such as Puppet or Chef.
8. Strong scripting abilities, including Shell, Perl, PHP, Ruby, and YAML.
9. Creation or maintenance of build servers.
10. Veritas experience covering Volume Manager and Cluster Server.
11. Ability to build and configure core supporting technologies: NIS, NTP, NFS, and LDAP.
12. System performance reporting and diagnosis.
13. Ability to identify tasks which should be automated and then create tools to automate them.
14. 3-8 years of relevant work experience, including with Linux systems requiring the use of the following languages: Python, C, C++, Java, Perl, Shell, or PHP.
15. Flexibility to travel between locations in the South East UK and India if required.
16. Working knowledge of server hardware: DELL, IBM, Oracle/SUN, HP.
17. Working knowledge of Netbackup, HP Openview, Control-M, and Autosys.
18. Working knowledge of SAN storage and host-based configuration.
19. Virtualization and strong networking knowledge.
20. Good understanding and diagnostic skills (Firewall, Load balancing, DNS, LDAP, VLAN tagging, LACP, Cloud VPN/VPC).
21. Banking or finance-related business experience.
22. Technical certifications (i.e., Red Hat, Puppet, Chef, Bamboo, MySQL).
