Our client, a leading supplier of building materials across Ireland, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Commercial Director to lead and grow their sales function. As the Commercial Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s future, leading the sales teams, exploring new business opportunities, and driving growth in both B2C and B2B sectors. This position requires a results-driven leader who thrives in a fast-paced, competitive environment and has a deep understanding of the construction industry.
Key Responsibilities:
* Sales Leadership & Strategy
* Lead, mentor, and develop sales teams to achieve targets and foster a high-performance culture.
* Develop and implement effective sales strategies that drive both top-line and bottom-line growth.
* Monitor and analyse sales performance, providing guidance and support where necessary to meet company objectives.
* Set ambitious sales targets, track KPIs, and ensure accountability across the sales function.
* Business Development & Partnerships
* Identify and capitalise on new business opportunities across both B2C and B2B markets.
* Foster and maintain relationships with key industry partners, suppliers, and clients to drive strategic collaborations.
* Negotiate and manage commercial partnerships to maximise revenue potential.
* Build relationships with major construction contractors, developers, architects, and other key stakeholders.
* Market & Product Expansion
* Lead the exploration of new products and services to diversify the company’s offerings and meet evolving market demands.
* Identify new markets for expansion, both within Ireland and potentially abroad.
* Stay ahead of industry trends, ensuring the company is positioned to seize new opportunities as they arise.
* Oversee the development of product marketing strategies to support sales efforts.
* Innovation & Business Transformation
* Drive innovation within the sales process, using new technologies, digital tools, and industry best practices to streamline operations.
* Challenge traditional approaches and encourage innovative thinking within the sales and business development teams.
* Evaluate existing business models and recommend improvements to increase profitability and efficiency.
* Ensure the business is continuously improving its competitive advantage through innovative service offerings.
* Commercial Planning & Reporting
* Develop and manage the commercial strategy in line with the company’s long-term goals.
* Collaborate with the executive leadership team to align sales objectives with company-wide goals.
* Prepare regular reports for senior management on sales performance, market trends, and business opportunities.
* Monitor financial performance and oversee budgeting and forecasting for the commercial division.
* Client Relationship Management
* Build and nurture strong relationships with key customers, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
* Oversee the management of key accounts and ensure long-term partnerships are developed and maintained.
* Handle escalated customer issues, providing solutions in a timely and effective manner.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Proven experience as a Commercial Director or in a similar senior sales role within the construction, building materials, or related industries.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, inspire, and develop high-performing teams.
* In-depth knowledge of both B2B and B2C sales strategies and tactics.
* Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships and negotiate high-value contracts.
* A strong understanding of the building materials market, including industry trends, competitors, and customer needs.
* Excellent business acumen and a strategic mindset with the ability to think outside the box.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions and provide actionable insights.
* Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders and clients.
* A self-starter with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
