Job Description
To manage and monitor the credit accounts of clients, ensuring timely collection of payments and minimising bad debt exposure. The Credit Controller will liaise with customers and internal departments to maintain accurate financial records and resolve any payment issues efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
* Credit Control Management:
o Monitor and manage outstanding balances, ensuring that overdue payments are collected promptly.
o Review credit applications and conduct thorough credit checks on new customers.
o Set credit limits for customers based on credit risk assessments.
o Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer account records.
* Debt Collection:
o Chase outstanding debts by phone, email, or letter.
o Negotiate payment plans with customers experiencing financial difficulties.
o Work with legal teams on escalating overdue accounts to legal action when necessary.
o Ensure collections are in line with company policies and payment terms.
* Account Reconciliation:
o Reconcile customer accounts to ensure all payments are accounted for and discrepancies are addressed.
o Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies and customer queries in a timely manner.
* Reporting:
o Prepare and present weekly/monthly reports on overdue accounts, bad debts, and cash flow to the finance team.
o Provide insights and analysis on payment trends and customer credit risk.
* Collaboration with Internal Teams:
o Work closely with the sales and customer service teams to resolve any credit-related issues affecting customer relationships.
o Liaise with the finance team to ensure that billing and invoicing processes run smoothly.
* Compliance:
o Ensure adherence to credit policies and procedures.
o Comply with regulatory and legal requirements related to credit control and debt recovery.
Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (preferred but not always required).
* Proven experience as a Credit Controller, Debt Collector, or in a related role.
* Strong knowledge of credit management and collection procedures.
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
* Ability to work well under pressure and handle difficult conversations.
* Strong organisational and time management skills.
* Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office (especially Excel).
