Scientific Officer/Inspector I (Level 3) General
Job Summary:
The Environmental Protection Agency is seeking a Scientific Officer/Inspector I (Level 3) General to lead a team in the programme area, manage people and projects, and implement the Annual Work Programme of the office. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the EPA's statutory functions, providing advice, support, training, and coaching to team members, and becoming a subject matter expert in the assigned area.
Key Responsibilities:
* Monitoring, inspecting, and auditing EPA regulated facilities
* Assessing, analysing, and reporting on environmental and market data
* Carrying out Environmental Impact Assessments and appropriate assessments
* Processing authorisation applications for various industrial activities
* Enforcing licence conditions and/or regulations in various sectors
* Collaborating with other regulators, non-government organisations, advocacy groups, and the public
General Duties:
* Managing staff and fostering EPA values
* Developing and delivering annual work programmes
* Leading, motivating, and developing staff through a performance management and development system
* Participating in cross-office initiatives and working groups
* Establishing and managing contracts for external resources and support
* Preparing and presenting updates and recommendations to the Board of the EPA
* Writing reports and presenting work to various audiences
* Dealing with the public, media, and various external stakeholders
* Participating in EU, national, and/or other expert groups and committees
Essential Requirements:
* An appropriate qualification (minimum NFQ Level 8) in Science, Engineering, or another relevant discipline
* Demonstrate a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in two or more of the following areas: environmental regulation, climate, circular economy, waste, energy, water, agriculture, technical experience in industrial, waste, drinking water, or wastewater facilities, waste management systems, data analysis, climate/circular economy regulatory assessments, waste prevention activities
* Demonstrate a proven track record of leading a team to successfully deliver complex projects and/or business goals
* Demonstrated ability to analyse, interpret, and communicate complex environmental regulatory issues
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* A full valid Irish/EU driving licence for Class B vehicles
Salary:
Estimated salary €50,000 - €70,000 per annum based on experience
