Our client, one of the largest prefabricated M&E manufacturers across the UK & Ireland is looking to hire a Preconstruction Building Services Engineer
Job Summary
The role will support the business development department evaluate new tender opportunities from a technical perspective. The role will assist in the preconstruction design review and technical evaluation of data centre off site manufacture projects. The Building Services Engineer will assess tenders received from clients and identify modularization scope that the business will price. They will also review the Revit model to identify our scope. They will identify value engineering options that we can offer to our client in support of our bid.
They will support the preparation of a proposal document from a technical perspective to ensure compliance to the specification and industry regulations. As the tender progresses towards contract, they will manage all technical aspects of client enquiries. They will attend tender bid defense meetings together with the broader team as technical lead.
As new projects are awarded, they will prepare the project handover file for our delivery teams. They will support the early stage design reviews (internal and with client) to ensure project teams are provided the correct information to deliver the job. They will support the project in an ongoing basis with technical queries that may arise from our initial tender submission.
Responsibilities
1. Evaluation of tender drawings, models, specifications and schedules.
2. Identify inconsistencies within the tender documentation from a technical perspective.
3. Manage the RFI process during pre & post tender stages of new projects.
4. Assess documentation received to identify modularisation opportunities within the project.
5. Analyse equipment specifications and engage with vendors to ensure compliance with project scope.
6. Identify whether there are any value engineering opportunities that can be proposed to make our submissions more competitive.
7. Co-ordinate with our in-house teams to ensure correct mark-up of schematics and project layouts to identify Alternative Heat’s scope of work as well as stripping back of the Revit files which will be used as part of our tender submissions and bid defence meetings.
8. Prepare detailed handover documentation from the tender team to our execution team.
9. Support our design team understand the scope of works and assist in setting out our schedule of deliverables for the project – technical submittals, design calculations, drawings, trackers, plant & build schedules during the kick off stage of a new project.
10. Support the design team analyse and select project plant, materials and equipment, as well as the preparation of technical submittal.
11. Support the early stages of a project to comply with relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
12. Collaboration with clients, suppliers, sub-contractors, and other relevant authorities as necessary.
13. Maintain updates on industry advancements in building services technology, codes, and regulations.
14. Understand and ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations and quality standards.
15. Liaise with in-house teams to co-ordinate model walk through videos for presentations, conferences and marketing material.
16. Any other duties deemed necessary by Management.
Essential Criteria:
17. Third level education in Mechanical Engineering.
18. Minimum 3-5 years’ experience within the building services or similar industry.
19. Excellent knowledge of reading mechanical schematics and building layouts.
20. Experienced in use of Revit.
21. Experience and understanding of multi-disciplinary design processes and design coordination.
22. Proficient in Microsoft office Packages – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project and Microsoft teams.
