The National Disability Authority (NDA) is the independent statutory body that provides evidence-informed advice and guidance to the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY) on policy and practice relating to persons with disabilities. In practice, the NDA delivers on this role through advising officials in DCEDIY and in other Government Departments and key state agencies, as well as through direct advice to the Minister.
Our functions include:
1. Acting as a central national body to assist the Minister in the coordination and development of disability policy.
2. Undertaking, commissioning, or collaborating in research projects and activities.
3. Assisting in the development of statistical information for the planning, delivery, and monitoring of disability programmes and services.
4. Advising the Minister on standards for disability programmes and services.
5. Preparing codes of practice and monitoring the implementation of standards and codes.
6. Monitoring the employment of people with disabilities in the public sector.
7. Promoting, through the Centre of Excellence in Universal Design (CEUD), universal design of the built environment, products, services, and information and communications technology.
