Job Description:
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is a senior clinical position that reports to the Director of Nursing. The ADON will provide clinical leadership, manage day-to-day clinical practices, and oversee staff rostering, delegation, and supervision.
The ADON will work collaboratively with the DON and Healthcare Manager as part of the senior management team in the nursing home, providing clear communication and direction, and deputizing for the DON as required.
The ADON is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality nursing and social care that meets the individual needs of each resident. This includes conducting ward rounds, reviewing nursing documentation, and participating in handovers.
The ADON will also be responsible for auditing clinical practices, monitoring standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and fostering effective working relationships between nurses, carers, housekeeping, and catering staff.
In addition, the ADON will interact with residents and families on a daily basis, ensuring that complaints are dealt with promptly and escalated for resolution at DON level if necessary.
The ADON will be responsible for the day-to-day clinical practices in the home and will deputize for the DON in their absence. Open, honest, and clear communication is required at all times when reporting to senior management, direct reports, and all staff.
The ADON will be a key point of contact for relatives and visitors, and will ensure that all staff are appropriately skilled, competent, caring, and conscientious.
This role requires excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills, as well as the ability to motivate self and others, and work well in a team environment.
The ideal candidate will have first-level registration, evidence of continuous professional development, and previous management experience.
