Project (Automation) Engineer
Reporting to: Associate Director of Automation
Job Summary
We are seeking a Project Engineer to coordinate and lead automation and facility-related projects in a highly regulated manufacturing environment. This role will focus on delivering new processing equipment, automation solutions, and facility upgrades, ensuring all projects meet agreed timelines, budgets, and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution, reporting progress to the Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee the safe and efficient delivery of new processing and automation equipment, including autoclaves, LAF units, moulds, extruders, packaging equipment, automated vision inspection systems, lyophilizers, isolators, containment booths, stopper processing equipment, and SCADA/hardware upgrades.
* Coordinate equipment installation and service hook-ups in collaboration with vendors and engineering teams.
* Lead or support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) programs.
* Ensure all required equipment documentation is completed and maintained.
* Support commissioning activities to facilitate validation processes.
* Develop training and maintenance protocols for new equipment.
* Report project progress to the Project Manager and contribute to key project decisions.
* Participate in technical problem-solving related to manufacturing, aseptic fill, and packaging processes.
* Identify and implement process improvement initiatives.
* Engage with internal stakeholders to drive efficiency and ensure alignment with business objectives.
* Lead or participate in regular project and facility review meetings.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Engineering, Science, or a related discipline, preferably with a focus on Automation.
* 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or medical device environment.
* Project management experience is an advantage but not required.
* Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively within multi-functional project teams.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively to drive project success.
Essential Skills & Competencies
* Experience working in a GxP-regulated environment preferred.
* Familiarity with process/equipment projects and manufacturing systems.
* Proficiency in Windows OS, Microsoft Office, and an understanding of PLC and SCADA systems is advantageous.
* Strong organizational and time management skills.
* Ability to work flexibly, including responding to production issues outside standard working hours.
* Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
