The Law Society of Ireland is seeking applications for a Diploma Centre Senior Manager in our Education Department. As Diploma Centre Senior Manager, the successful candidate will act as the team lead and will oversee the development, management and running of the Society’s portfolio of diploma and certificate courses, LLM programmes, Professional Doctorate in Law, the Massive Open Online course (MOOC) project and the development of new programmes. The Diploma Centre Senior Manager will have primary responsibility for managing the section, ensuring that performance targets are met.
The successful candidate should be legally qualified, though applications are welcome from other candidates with a training/education background. Candidates should be willing to work on Saturdays and outside normal office hours.
This is a senior role with a great deal of responsibility that involves both an academic and commercial focus. The successful candidate will need considerable experience. Appointment to this role is initially on a fixed term two years’ contract.
Main Duties & Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will carry out the following duties in line with the Society’s standards and strategic objectives and as directed by the Head of Lifelong Learning and the Director of Education:
1. Management and co-ordination of the Education Department’s post qualification diploma programme, including all Diploma Centre courses organised by the Law Society, both on its own and in conjunction with external organisations/partners.
2. Management of a large team of Diploma Centre staff.
3. Preparation for and advance planning of the Diploma Centre portfolio of courses.
4. Organising and conducting all planning meetings necessary to the proper preparation for the courses.
5. Leading the annual MOOC project, as part of the Law Society’s Public Legal Education initiative.
6. Developing new programmes for the portfolio.
7. Ensuring high quality standards across the portfolio.
8. Leading the marketing strategy for the Diploma Centre.
9. Assist in the teaching and tutoring on courses, where appropriate.
10. Overall co-ordination of the financial planning for the diploma section, including projections, budget preparation, budget monitoring and reporting.
11. Ensuring that performance targets for the Diploma Centre team are met.
12. Reporting on Diploma Centre activities and results to the Law Society Council, Education Committee, Curriculum Development Committee and senior management team.
13. Collaboration with the Law Society Professional Training Senior Manager on a range of projects.
14. Liaising with the Head of Lifelong Learning on Diploma Centre activities on a regular basis.
Minimum Requirements
1. Knowledge of and experience of legal work is preferable.
2. Experience of managing a team required.
3. Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
4. Excellent interpersonal skills.
5. Have a legal background (preferably as a practising solicitor) and an interest in education.
6. A range of professional experience is desirable, though the Law School also welcomes specialist skill and experience.
7. Digital literacy.
8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high attention to detail.
9. An ability to work on his/her own initiative and as part of a team and be proactive in achieving project outcomes.
10. Diplomatic and professional communication skills.
11. A proactive approach with a growth mindset.
12. Experience of dealing with a large volume of enquiries.
13. Methodical, flexible and capable of undertaking multitask driven work.
14. Ability to work in a pressurised environment.
15. Ability to work to tight deadlines.
16. Familiarity with accounts management would also be an advantage.
