Job Description:
This is a challenging role that requires the implementation and maintenance of health and safety policies and procedures across water and wastewater facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting inspections and audits, leading incident investigations, and developing safety alerts and toolbox talks.
Key Responsibilities:
* Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and industry best practices.
* Incident Investigations: Lead thorough investigations into incidents, including high-potential incidents, to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
* Safety Development: Develop and deliver safety training programs, including safety alerts and toolbox talks, to promote a culture of safety within the organization.
* Best Practices & Guidance: Promote best practices in behavioral safety and provide guidance to staff, contractors, and operators on health and safety requirements.
* Reporting & Metrics: Prepare regular reports and safety metrics to track trends and inform decision-making.
* Recognition Programs: Assist in identifying and administering programs to recognize and reward safe work performance.
* Policy Implementation: Implement and maintain health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and industry best practices.
* Risk Assessments: Conduct risk assessments of water and wastewater facilities and processes to identify potential hazards and implement control measures.
* Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with local and state regulations related to wastewater management and ensure compliance with these regulations.
* Project Support: Participate in design reviews and project kick-off meetings to ensure health and safety requirements are integrated into projects.
* Accident/Incident Review: Act as Incident Liaison Officer to review accidents and incidents, identify lessons learned, and communicate findings to the organization.
* Communication: Develop and disseminate regular safety communications to staff and contractors to keep them informed about health and safety matters.
* Coaching & Support: Coach key influencers to promote safety conversations and improve safety culture.
* HSQE Standards: Ensure regional processes incorporate HSQE standards and assist in the rollout of the SiMS system.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering).
* At least 3 years of experience in HSQE roles within water services, utilities, or construction.
* 2+ years of experience conducting site inspections and audits.
* Strong IT skills, particularly in MS Excel.
* Full driving license and own transport.
* IOSH Coaching for Safety certification desirable.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong task prioritization and resource management skills.
* Ability to develop relationships and embed HSQE culture.

- Role will be 5 days per week, hybrid working. The advisor will be based 3 days at home and 2 days visiting sites one week and then 2 days at home and 3 days visiting sites the next.
