Senior Accounts Assistant
REPORTING TO: Financial Controller
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To perform any accounting functions as defined in the hotel’s policies and procedures or as allocated by the Financial Controller.
Tasks/Responsibilities
1. To assist in preparing monthly management accounts in an accurate and timely manner.
2. To ensure that relevant financial reports presented are accurate and on time.
3. Ensure monitoring and control of all sales revenue streams is carried out and integrity of all POS systems is maintained. To ensure Hotel payroll is processed in timely manner and all employees are paid correctly.
4. To assist accounting staff in all facets of their day-to-day operations
5. To resolve queries where possible in a timely manner.
6. To develop the skills and competencies of the accounting staff.
7. To assist Financial Controller in overseeing that all legal and financial policies and procedures are consistently observed and to ensure compliance with the hotel control manual.
8. To maintain a strong accounting & operational control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations and profitability and manage business risks.
9. To advise Financial Controller on existing and evolving operating/financial issues.
10. To be responsible/accountable for all cash i.e. floats; cash transit procedures, safe/procedures, float spot checks etc. Oversee the collection and control of debtor accounts and to be the guardian of hotel credit policy, monitoring its implementation consistently.
11. To oversee accounts payable ensuring vendor accounts are reconciled and suppliers paid in timely manner.
12. To complete miscellaneous projects / tasks set down by Financial Controller as required.
13. Other duties as may be required.
Skills/Competencies Needed
1. 2+ years in a similar role
2. Strong excel skills are essential
3. Opera, Procure Wizard, Sage, Alkimii experience would be beneficial
4. Previous experience in hospitality industry advantageous but not essential
5. Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
6. Team player
7. Accuracy and strong attention to detail
8. Flexibility in day-to-day task demands, remain focused when priorities and practices change
9. Be clear, concise and professional in all communications both written and verbal
10. Work closely with other departments to achieve desired end result
11. Be resourceful and creative when faced with obstacles
