Fixed term contract opportunity for a Senior IT Project Manager based in either Cork or Dublin to work with a well established Irish organisation.
The role:
The IT team within my client's organisation is an integral part of the business providing operational,and customer-focused IT services. These services include solution delivery, service management, and infrastructure & operations management. These services are provided through a combination of in-house resources and external service providers.
The Project Delivery team within the IT team are responsible for delivering and maintaining a project delivery capability to enable the delivery of mainly IT specific change projects to meet the needs of the business. Reporting to the Project Delivery Manager, the Senior Project Manager has responsibility for the end to end delivery of projects within the portfolio. This role requires strong project management and team/people management skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Deliver an agreed portfolio of projects, from initiation through to project closeout, that deliver outcomes that meet the business objectives.
2. Lead and mentor one or more skilled Project Managers as required, promoting cross functional working, and assist in the development of skills, competencies and capabilities within the team.
3. Oversee the delivery of mainly IT centric projects being delivered through Project Managers / external third parties and ensure that the portfolio of projects is managed effectively & efficiently through the entire project life cycle.
4. Ensure adherence is maintained with the relevant governance processes, and ensure projects meet all the phases and gates go/no-go criteria.
5. Act as a senior member of the Project Delivery Team and QA the projects being led by the Project Managers / external parties to ensure sufficient quality and progress is being made.
6. Ensuring the procurement process is followed as appropriate in the project lifecycle.
7. Managing project plans and allocating resources to achieve planned work schedules.
8. Managing & reporting on status, risks, issues and projects plans of all projects within the portfolio on a regular basis. Escalation to Project Sponsor and Steering Group at appropriate point.
9. Ensuring that analysis and overall system design, including production of specifications is completed.
10. Manages stakeholders across the project lifecycle including users and external resources/service providers.
11. Managing to budgets and timescales to ensure adherence to approved milestones and overall budget
12. Ensure the project team develops detailed test plans and test data for system, business and post - production testing.
13. Managing relationships with all suppliers and contractors, monitoring their progress and adherence to the contract, representing the Project Delivery team at meetings with third parties.
14. Manage day to day issues within the project Portfolio and act as an escalation point, taking ownership through to resolution.
15. Define, monitor and report on monthly KPI's and define, promoting strong governance.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
16. Relevant 3rd level qualification in Business, IT or related discipline.
17. Minimum of 7 years Project Delivery Experience, with a least 5 years Project Lead.
18. Project Management qualification required.
19. Proven ability to create and develop good working relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals, coupled with the ability to gain commitment from others.
