About the School of Mechanical Electrical and Process Engineering
The School of Mechanical Electrical and Process Engineering is a vibrant academic community that comprises of three departments: Centre of Craft Studies, Dept of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Dept of Process Energy and Transport Engineering. We offer a wide range of undergraduate programmes, both full-time and part-time, and are actively engaged in research.
With approximately 2000 students and 180 staff, our school has a thriving environment that supports learning and research. Our programmes are backed by industry-standard workshops, computer laboratories, research laboratories, and other specialist facilities.
Job Summary
This Technical Officer position will be part of our team, contributing to activities and developments across the school. The appointee will be based primarily in Bishopstown and report to the Head of School.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide IT support to staff and students across various technologies, including engineering/automation laboratories/workshops and associated network systems.
* Support engineering student activities, including design, creation, and testing of prototype products/systems.
* Collaborate with academic staff to devise and deliver authentic laboratory practicals and projects for students.
* Work as part of a team to resolve issues and develop projects that enhance student learning.
* Use own initiative to research technical solutions in specific applications.
* Participate in the evaluation of new equipment/software.

Qualifications
Essential:
* A Level 8 degree (2nd Class or higher) from a recognised degree awarding authority in the area of Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, or cognate technical discipline.
* Not less than three years relevant post-qualification experience.
Desirable:
* IT skills to support staff and students across technologies such as Intune, FLEXlm, PC support skills to maintain and support computer-based laboratories.
* Troubleshooting skills to design and evaluate prototypes, develop/maintain networked system solutions, and teaching/research laboratories.
* Knowledge of emerging technologies including cloud, enterprise architecture, Io T, Industry 4.0, PLC, SCADA, electrical substation automation systems, industrial networks, and security, BIM.
* Team-working and ability to manage/support projects and equipment installation, maintenance, and upgrading.
Salary
The salary for this position is estimated to be around €50,000 - €60,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
