Jennings O’Donovan & Partners, part of RSK Group, are seeking to recruit an experienced Ecologist to join our expanding environmental team in Sligo, Ireland.
The successful candidates must have the ability to work in and lead teams in the collection of field data and the preparation of the Biodiversity Chapter and/or Ornithology Chapter of Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs), Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) reports, and Appropriate Assessment (AA, NIS, NIR) reporting for multiple large complex project types. The successful candidate will also be required to demonstrate project experience in the design and implementation of ecological surveys including habitats, botanical, birds, and protected species surveys, analysis of data, and completion of impact assessments.
Key Responsibilities:
* Working with the existing Environmental Team on ecological and environmental aspects of diverse projects including renewable energy, infrastructure, and private commercial projects.
* Coordinating, supervising, and mentoring other ecologists (in-house staff and external sub-contractors) to ensure safe and efficient delivery of work on time and within budget.
* Managing work schedules/resourcing, providing assistance, guidance, and technical review of other team members’ work, and providing on-the-job training and feedback to other staff.
* Providing ecological input into desktop studies, scoping studies, site selection, site surveys, Ecological Impact Assessments, Appropriate Assessment reporting, and overseeing the implementation of construction mitigation measures (Ecological Clerk of Works).
* Carrying out project management tasks including financial management, producing fee proposals, and tendering for work.
Person Specification:
* Relevant third level Degree (Level 8 or higher).
* A minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience within the field of ecological consultancy.
* Knowledge of relevant wildlife policy and legislation, and its real-world application.
* Comfortable, where appropriate and safe to do so, with working within water bodies to carry out aquatic surveys.
* Competent in the use of Microsoft Office.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* The following would be advantageous:
* Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
* Holder of a survey license for at least one European Protected Species.
* Experience in aquatic monitoring, surveying, and reporting.
* Water Framework sampling experience.
* Applicants should hold a full clean driver’s license.
