Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Co-Centre Business Development Manager within UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science.
Transformation of the global food system towards more sustainable and equitable outcomes is urgently needed, requiring an evidence-based food systems approach. The Co-Centre for Sustainable Food Systems aims to transform the existing food systems in Ireland and the UK, addressing economic, social, health and environmental problems to ensure safe nutritious food for all. Our research will consider specific challenges addressing food system integrity and resilience, food safety and healthy diets from sustainable sources. Using a food systems approach, the Co-Centre for Sustainable Food Systems encompasses a research programme of oriented basic and applied research in the areas of science, technology, engineering and social sciences across three jurisdictions - the Republic of Ireland (ROI), Northern Ireland (NI) and Great Britain (GB).
Reporting to the Co-Centre Manager, the Business Development Manager will have a key role in extending and maintaining the Co-Centre's relationship with industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the development of the Co-Centre's business development strategy and achieving its business development goals and objectives. S/he/they will be responsible for understanding in detail the needs of industry and matching those to the emerging technologies and capabilities of the Co-Centre's research groups. The role will also identify and coordinate opportunities for collaboration with research organisations both nationally and internationally (companies, government, NGOs etc.) across the Co-Centre network. This includes collaboration with industry in the securing of additional research funding and the involvement of industry partners in new funding applications.
Salary Range: €70,000 - €80,000 Per Annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements
Communication, Organizational skills, Administrative skills, Experience in a food, nutrition or related life-science setting, managing innovation, A proven ability to work autonomously meeting challenging deadlines and targets.
Eligibility Criteria
Mandatory:
1. An Honours Degree in relevant discipline e.g. Business/ Food / Nutrition / Life Science.
2. A minimum of 5 years' experience in a food, nutrition or related life-science setting, managing innovation in multi-functional teams.
3. Experience working in a research driven environment, connecting research to industry with a proven track record in delivering key target achievements.
4. Proven leadership ability with a track record of winning the confidence of a diverse range of stakeholders spanning Academia, Government, and Industry to work together in an open innovation environment.
5. Ability to interpret industry research challenges and provide workable solutions.
6. Proven track record in securing funding for research and innovation including experience in writing successful funding applications for awards involving industry related research.
7. Experience in negotiating research agreements preferably between industry and academia.
8. Strong networking and consultative skills, with an ability to grow relationships based on delivering value to all customers.
9. Excellent communication skills (oral, writing, presentation) and a proven ability to communicate with diverse audiences at an individual or group level.
10. Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines while working on multiple projects simultaneously - ability to prioritise tasks and see through to completion.
11. Comfort and enthusiasm for communicating technical subjects; experience in disseminating complex information in a clear and accessible manner across a range of channels.
12. Excellent IT skills across a wide range of technologies and services (MS Office, social media, Blogs, Wikis, Website design and development).
13. Ability to develop networks and work effectively with a wide range of people, including senior managers, academics, industry and media.
14. Excellent project management skills and experience using standard project management tools and software.
15. Proven ability to prepare successful high-quality project proposals and reports.
16. A proven ability to work autonomously meeting challenging deadlines and targets in a diverse business environment.
17. Willingness to travel nationally and internationally consistent with demands of the role- must have a valid driving licence and passport.
18. Candidates must demonstrate an awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion agenda.
Preferred:
1. Hold a master's degree or PhD in a related area such as Food / Nutrition / Life Science.
2. A post-graduate qualification in Business would be an advantage in addition to relevant practical experience working in/and across the university and/or industry sectors.
