The role involves supporting the Head of Reinsurance in leading the purchase and management of Treaty reinsurance arrangements for RSAII DAC. Time will be spent engaging closely with the Executive team, Business Leads, Intact Reinsurance team and the external marketplace to maintain alignment between the business requirement and the reinsurance capacity and Treaty arrangements required to support it; while also ensuring adherence to agreed risk appetites/strategies and compliance with Regulatory requirements.
It involves working directly with reinsurers and brokers negotiating commercially beneficial contractual arrangements and developing best practice standards. It will mean using technical and analytical skills to manage and control local reinsurance risks and claims in line with group policy and regulatory requirements and will add value through the ability to support and deliver competitive advantage from reinsurance arrangements.
You will use your relationship skills to effectively build and enhance the RSAII reinsurance programme.
Key Responsibilities:
* Play a leading part in the development of the company’s Reinsurance strategy.
* Manage communication with internal (Executive team, Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Actuarial, Intact Reinsurance team etc.) and external (Reinsurance Brokers and Reinsurers) partners, including attending meetings, maintaining meeting minutes, and providing business updates.
* Engage with all relevant departments, group & third parties as required to assess the company's reinsurance requirements.
* Assist in preparing reinsurance market presentations and business profiles to support placements.
* Take part in all activities for renewal, negotiations of reinsurance conditions; review addendums and endorsements for in-force treaties.
* Manage operational issues including provision of data, special acceptances, premium payments, claim notifications and recoveries.
* Achieve accurate and prompt settlement and reconciliation of all reinsurance minimum and deposit premiums, yearly adjustments, cash calls, and quarterly reinsurance treaty accounts.
* Support assessment of new reinsurance treaties (review treaties, covers and slip notes; review and assess terms and conditions; profitability; risk mitigation; compliance with regulations).
* Maintain inventory of reinsurance treaty and reinsurance conditions. Responsibility for the collation of all placing information.
* Responsibility for updating and the maintenance of the company’s Reinsurance process and procedure documents and Control framework.
* Monitor Regulatory requirements and regulatory reporting.
* Participate and present in the absence of the Head of Reinsurance to all the relevant committees and Board.
* Assist in the identification of potential risks (credit, market, operational) related to reinsurance activities and support risk management frameworks.
* Manage and maintain robust relationships across the group, representing Reinsurance Operations on internal working groups or committees.
* Leading and/or contributing to strategic projects and change programmes as and when necessary.
Attributes and Qualifications:
* 2-3 years working in Underwriting or Claims.
* Experience of working in re/insurance either at a broker, reinsurer or a primary carrier.
* Comfortable using and analysing data and ability to tackle problems using logical and systematic approaches.
* Effective communications and problem-solving skills.
* Good relationship development skills and capable of working proactively with internal and external business colleagues.
* Strong focus on quality, completeness and accuracy.
* Strong ability to communicate technical topics in an easy-to-understand manner.
Regulatory Requirements:
* To hold or progress towards APA/CIP qualification preferred.
* This role is a "controlled function" as defined by the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 Regulations 2011. Any appointment will be conditional on the company being satisfied that you meet the requirements as set out in the Fitness & Probity standards issued in this Act.
