About the Role
The overall purpose of a Care Staff member is to enhance the lives of Residents.
To achieve this goal, Care Staff must work effectively with all staff directly involved with the residents of Stewarts Care.
Care Staff are a part of the Resident Services team and provide support in conjunction with the wider multidisciplinary team and other relevant stakeholders.
This position has specific working arrangements: Monday - Friday, 9AM - 5PM
Main Responsibilities
1. Supervise residents in all aspects of daily life, ensuring their safety and the safety of others on and off sections, including outdoor activities in accordance with Stewarts Care Policy.
2. Ensure that all efforts are made to cater for the physical and emotional needs of residents to ensure the highest quality of care.
3. Assist in the day-to-day running of sections, maintaining the highest professional standards and care.
4. Assist in the training of residents and observe/report on residents to nursing staff and other personnel as requested.
5. Participate in client assessment and programme implementation.
6. Accompany residents to outside clinics, hospitals, or other centres for specialised treatment or care and provide a preliminary verbal report upon return.
7. Implement nursing treatment as directed.
8. Induct new Care Staff into the Residents' routine and assist with general duties.
9. Accept delegated responsibility for residents when requested by the Manager/Social Care Worker or Nurse in Charge.
10. Attend In-service Training Programme and lectures educating service users on development.
11. Attend Fire Prevention and Emergency Training Sessions and become conversant with fire orders as per letter of appointment.
12. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
13. Maintain Hygiene and tidiness in assigned areas.
14. Undertake training for safe medication administration.
15. Administer medication according to organisational policy.
Person Specification
* Demonstrate sufficient competency and professional knowledge to perform the role's duties and responsibilities.
* Possess QQI Level 5 (Healthcare Support) or SKILL-VEC Level 5 or equivalent.
* Hold one year's experience working in disability services (preferable).
* Exhibit excellent communication skills.
* Knowledge of HIQA, Health Act 2007-2013, Progressing Disability Services for children and young people, New Directions & Mental Health in Intellectual disability.
* Be flexible to work in all areas of Resident Services.
* Demonstrate creativity in using community resources and problem-solving.
* Display professional, accountable, good planning and time management skills.
