Reporting to the Chamber council, the CEO will further develop the Chamber as the voice of Galway business, engaging with key influencers and stakeholders.This role requires a dynamic and strategic leader who can harness the power of the Chamber to influence, advocate, and drive positive change across Galway city and county ensuring the needs of its diverse membership are met and promote a unified and thriving community.This role offers a unique opportunity for an individual with strong business acumen to significantly impact the development of Galway city and county.Over the years, the Chamber has evolved by integrating Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) into its strategic partnerships and operational activities and being an equal opportunities employer. A hybrid working model is available to all staff with an onus on creating a progressive and engaging working environment.Key Responsibilities:Strategic Focus and Planning:•Collaborate with the Chamber Council to develop the strategic plan and implement robust business and operational plans.•Support and execute the Council’s vision, mission, values, and goals.•Prepare and present monthly updates and reports.•Plan and manage key initiatives and projects to ensure successful outcomes.•Promote sustainability and the Chamber’s role in creating a creative and vibrant city and county.•Drive the Chamber’s mission to be a spokesperson and advocate for housing and other critical community needs.Operational Management:•Lead the strategic direction, business planning/reporting, leadership and financial management of the Chamber. Ensure the operations run efficiently and effectively and that processes are continually reviewed and improved.•Setting and managing annual budgets.•Manage the financials with a robust and commercial approach bringing any material issues directly to the attention of the Council.•Build and maintain a high performing, empowered team through effective management and support of staff, including mentoring, motivating, guiding, influencing, training and communications.•Oversee the Chamber’s operations, ensuring staff levels and funding align with the ambitions of various council committees and the Galway Chamber constitution.Advocacy and Representation:•Advocate for the business community in Galway, focusing on social, cultural, and economic aspects, including tourism.•Represent the Chamber in engagements with local authorities, policymakers, stakeholders and external bodies.•Champion the needs and interests of the members, using the Chamber’s strong voice to influence local authorities, national government and policy decisions.Collaboration and Communication:•Foster collaboration across the city and county, bringing together diverse groups to work towards common goals.•Utilise the Chamber’s ability to convene, communicate, and collaborate, ensuring visibility of the Chamber’s initiatives and services.•Build on the collaborative efforts of the Greater Galway Forum to enhance communication and collective action.Membership Engagement:•Address the diverse needs of the Chamber's membership, which includes FDI, SMEs, and sole traders.•Implement growth-based programmes and campaigns to increase the membership base and the added value services offered to members.•Ensure the Chamber remains the most effective in Ireland by understanding and addressing the needs of its members, consolidating efforts, and sharing successes across the membership and council.•Develop and implement strategic communications, focused events and online marketing campaigns to serve the membership effectively.•Manage the issuance of trade certificates to generate additional revenue.•Develop revenue generation streams through collaborative initiatives with various stakeholders.Relationship Management:•Develop and sustain strong relationships with Chamber members, keeping them fully informed about progress toward strategic goals.•Cultivate and maintain enduring relationships with local and industry stakeholders, politicians, and leaders.•Ensure the Chamber is well-represented at key regional business events, forums, and in publications.•Act as the public face of Galway Chamber in the media, maintaining a positive profile for Galway businesses.•Foster innovation by supporting new and existing businesses in their efforts to innovate.•Develop and sustain strong relationships with Chamber Ireland.Qualifications and Skills:•Minimum of 8+ years proven senior strategic management and leadership experience in a complex organisation in either the public or private sector.•A relevant degree level qualification.•Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to convene and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.•Experience in Financial Management and/or funds management.•Proven experience in regional development and a strong understanding of Government objectives and related social and economic issues in this area.•Media management, public speaking, and similar large audience presentations.•Experience in a corporate governance role and the ability to work under the general direction of the Chamber President and Council.Key Behaviours/Competencies:•Exhibits a driven and focused approach to achieving goals.•Possesses strong commercial acumen, enabling effective engagement and collaboration with businesses and key stakeholders.•Demonstrates excellent communication skills, written, verbal and social and the ability to relate to, engage, and secure support from all stakeholders.•Displays a leadership style that fosters teamwork, credibility and trust.•Thinks strategically with the capability to prioritise to achieve successful outcomes.•Shows innovation in problem-solving.
