SAE-21 Post doctoral Researcher in Optical Design and Biophotonics
This is a full-time, fixed-term position based at the Tyndall National Institute. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative research programme led by Professor Stefan Andersson-Engels.
About the Group
The group's focus is to form close collaborations with clinicians, research centers, and companies to accelerate biophotonics technology and deliver breakthrough technologies into healthcare providers' hands. We use photonics as a driver for faster development and deployment of more accurate, less invasive diagnostic and treatment methods for cancer and other diseases.
This new programme has been formed by the Tyndall National Institute, the Irish Photonic Integration Centre (IPIC), and University College Cork, under a €5M award from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) professorship award.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to work on an industrial project focused on fetal monitoring during labor based on pulse oximetry. The role will involve working closely with industry partners and contributing to the development of optical design and algorithms for biophotonics applications.
Main Responsibilities
* Conduct specified pieces of research as directed
* Provide optical design and algorithm development support to the biophotonics team
* Carry out strategic research activities as planned in a detailed project plan for specific industry projects and in the general area of fetal pulse oximetry
* Act as translator in a multidisciplinary research field: of research questions as well as of industry and academic research needs and capabilities
* Participate fully in collaborative projects
Key Skills
* Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, or Biomedical Engineering with a strong background in photonics
* Good understanding of biophotonics and optical imaging systems
* Strong theoretical and experimental skills and hands-on experience with optical systems
* Good communication, writing, organization, and interpersonal skills
Desirable Criteria
* Experience in biomedical optics, imaging, spectroscopy, and/or system integration
