The University College Dublin (UCD) School of Mathematics and Statistics is seeking to appoint an Ad Astra Fellow – Assistant Professor in Applied Mathematics and Meteorology. This is an exciting opportunity for a researcher to develop cutting-edge solutions at the interface of applied mathematics, meteorology, and artificial intelligence (AI).
About the Role
The successful candidate will:
* Develop next-generation numerical weather prediction models, focusing on extreme weather forecasts and their impacts.
* Lead a research programme aligned with UCD’s Breaking Boundaries Strategy 2030, with a focus on sustainability and AI-driven technologies.
* Publish in top-tier academic journals, supervise research students, and secure competitive research funding.
* Contribute to teaching excellence at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, while helping to shape new programmes.
* Duration: 5-year fixed term, with a permanency review after 4 years.
* Salary: €62,855–€99,533 per annum, depending on experience.
* Closing Date: 21st February 2025, 12:00 noon (Irish time).
* Requirements: A PhD in a relevant discipline, a strong publication record, and expertise in AI-driven approaches for meteorology and extreme weather prediction.
