Principal DutiesWe are seeking a senior postdoctoral researcher to join a new project funded by the EPA undertaking event attribution studies over Ireland.
The project is in partnership with the well-established world weather attribution (WWA) group led by Dr. Fredi Otto out of Imperial College London.
The post holder will be expected to contribute in addition to global analyses undertaken under the auspices of the WWA as resources permit.
The postholder will also work with PI Professor Peter Thorne, a PhD student being recruited to look at historical events, and staff both within ICARUS and at Met Eireann and other national centres.
Administrative and Other DutiesWork with Met Eireann, the Marine Institute and EPA amongst others to identify and prepare relevant national and local observational timeseries and products that could be used in event attribution studies over Ireland.Identify any relevant national climate model simulations, such as from the TRANSLATE project that could be applied.Come up with robust criteria which may trigger an event attribution study over Ireland.Lead near real time event attribution studies for Ireland using established techniques from the WWA group.Present the results to public and media and prepare and lead follow-up workshops with affected communities to understand the utility and value of the analyses and iteratively improve their overall utility to impacted communities and key stakeholders.Contribute to the development of new and novel event attribution techniques in collaboration with the WWA group.Contribute to global analyses by the WWA group both as an analyst and a reviewer as deemed necessary and resources permit.Lead the production of a document outlining options for operationalisation of the service in the long-term and lead the organisation of an associated stakeholder workshop.Lead the design, production and upkeep of a website for the project with a web designer.Note that some funded travel to Imperial College London via sail-rail for short visits throughout the duration of the project will be expected of the postholder.
