We’re hiring: The Business Post is seeking a data analyst
The successful candidate will work with the editorial team in a dynamic seven-day newsroom.
Role type: Full-time/permanent
Location: Dublin, Ireland
The role will involve:
1. Developing, implementing, and maintaining leading-edge analytics systems.
2. Taking complicated data problems and building simple frameworks to analyse them.
3. On a daily basis, providing up-to-the-minute data to drive editorial decision-making as how to maximise visibility of Business Post content.
4. Providing comprehensive daily and weekly analytics for the newsroom to inform key staff members as to levels of engagement with our audience, and to help decision-making about growing audience share.
5. Working closely with news editors and reporters to understand and maintain focus on their analytics needs, including critical metrics and KPIs, and delivering actionable insights to the newsroom.
6. Proactively analysing data to answer key questions about content with an eye on what drives business performance.
7. Investigating and communicating which areas need improvement in efficiency and productivity.
8. Developing and maintaining databases by acquiring data from primary and secondary sources and building scripts that will make our data evaluation process more flexible or scalable across datasets.
The successful candidate will have:
1. Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in mathematics, computer science, economics, or statistics.
2. Three or more years’ experience mining data in a data analyst role.
3. Proven analytics skills, including mining, evaluation, and visualisation.
4. Technical writing experience in relevant areas, including queries, reports, and presentations.
5. Strong SQL or Excel skills, with aptitude for learning other analytics tools.
6. Experience with database and model design and segmentation techniques.
7. Practical experience in statistical analysis through the use of statistical packages, including Excel, SPSS, and SAS.
8. A digital native with an interest in learning and development.
9. Great critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills.
10. Strong attention to detail with ability to multi-task effectively.
11. A self-starter who can work on their own initiative and take responsibility for their work.
12. Strong administrative and organisational skills.
13. Flexible attitude and approach to tasks in hand to include working flexible media/shift hours.
14. Pleasant interpersonal and excellent English communication skills (both oral and written).
15. Can work proactively and independently but can also take instruction.
16. Proven success in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
