About the Role
We are looking for an Embedded Toolchain & Backend Engineer to come onboard to work on key features and components across our CodeFusion Studio (CFS) development ecosystem. CFS comprises a package of build tools, debug collateral and middleware along with a suite of configuration and productivity tools which can be installed as an extension to Visual Studio Code. This role is ideal for a multidisciplinary engineer who can contribute to backend development, understands open-source toolchains and how to build and configure them, along with software component management and CLI utilities.
You will lead feature development, mentor junior engineers and contractors, and help drive technical execution. You will work closely with toolchain engineers, software architects, and product teams to ensure that our development tools remain cutting-edge, robust, and efficient.
Key Responsibilities
* Embedded Toolchain Development: Build, configure and enhance toolchains for embedded platforms, including GCC, LLVM/Clang, and other compiler toolchains.
* Backend & CLI Development: Architect and develop command-line utilities and plugin architectures for seamless integration within embedded development workflows.
* Software Component & Toolchain Management: Drive versioning, dependencies tracking, and integration across our toolchain stack.
* Optimize the User’s Development Experience: Improve the build system, cross-compilation flows, and debugging capabilities for embedded software developers.
* Lead technical initiatives, coordinate across teams, and drive the implementation of new functionalities in CodeFusion Studio.
* Community & Open-Source Engagement: Contribute to relevant open-source projects and engage with compiler toolchain maintainers.
Required Qualifications
* 7+ years of experience in embedded toolchain development, compiler internals, or backend development for developer tools.
* Expertise in GCC, LLVM/Clang, linkers, assemblers, and cross-compilation workflows.
* C/C++ for low-level toolchain development and TypeScript for CLI and backend tools.
* Experience with plugin architectures, CLI utilities, and backend services for development environments.
* Ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and debug compiler toolchains, linkers, and software build systems.
* Familiarity with assembly languages, such as Arm ISA, Thumb-2, or RISC-V ISA.
* Hands-on experience managing software components, dependencies, and toolchain integrations.
Preferred Qualifications
* Familiarity with Xtensa ISA and assembly.
* Experience contributing to open-source compiler toolchains.
* Development of VS code extension and command line tools, TypeScript, etc.
