This exciting role is a lighting designer as part of our award-winning lighting design and sales team. The role will include design work, pricing, servicing clients, and supporting on the floor in our innovative experiential retail space. As we are a small team with variety in our offer, there is huge opportunity for the candidate to get a wide variety of skills and experience quickly. The role is very hands-on where the candidate will get the chance to learn through testing and playing with light in our darkroom, testing and evaluating product and learning from our experienced design team.
Skills Required
The key for us is attitude; everything else can be learnt. Therefore, top of the list in our requirements is a candidate who has an enthusiasm for day-to-day work and a desire to learn and develop in their role. As lighting is often described as the balance between art and science, a passion for design, good attention to detail, organisational skills, and good computer skills (including AutoCAD and Office) are also prerequisites. Good communication skills are important.

6. AutoCAD, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word proficiency are prerequisites; Revit, Photoshop, and 3D visualisation skills are a nice to have.
7. No experience in lighting required, but architecture, interior architecture, product design, engineering, or lighting design experience is an advantage.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
The breakdown of typical day-to-day role tasks are as follows:
Design Work
Working as design support on commercial and residential projects to Senior Lighting Designer on commercial and residential lighting design projects, with the aim to develop over time to project lighting designer role. Daily tasks include:
1. Production of AutoCAD drawings, images documents, concept documents, sketches, and other material to articulate our design intent.
2. Production of lighting modelling and calculations through Dialux and other rendering software.
3. Testing lighting details through mock-ups in our darkroom.
4. Attendance at lighting consultations and workshops.
5. Dealing with client and design team queries and questions.
6. Aim in this role is to develop to project designer over time.
Pricing Work
Supporting salesperson on larger sales projects and pricing directly with customers on smaller ones. Daily tasks include:
1. Production of quotations and lighting product design books for lighting design or sales projects.
2. Liaise with suppliers on prices, specials, technical details as required as deal develops.
3. Ensure accurate and speedy replies when dealing with client queries.
4. Liaise with customers, replying to queries, checking in to ensure they are happy.
5. Complete order handover with operations team for any new orders.
Retail Work
The best way we find to learn key skills required for consulting in lighting is through dealing with customers on our showroom floor, and this will be an important part of this role. Working on the floor of our experiential retail space includes:
1. Greeting customers and introducing them to the space.
2. Dealing with customers' lighting and design queries, and moving customers to sale.

We are a third-generation lighting design and supply company who are innovating and pushing the boundaries of lighting design. In 2022, we won the prestigious LIT International Lighting Design Award for our design of Carton House, the first Irish company to do so. In addition to our design and supply offer, we have developed an experiential retail, co-creative, and events space in Kilkenny, aiming to inspire and educate in light, collaborate with parallel design professionals, and drive those important design conversations for the future. We work on both commercial and residential lighting design and sales projects. Creativity is central to our ethos, and we are hands-on, regularly testing lighting and light effects in our darkroom to learn and create new lighting experiences.
